SCOPE OF POSITION

The Associate Producer will assist in the development and production of a brand new children’s show coming to WHYY-TV. This individual will be responsible for booking guests and shoots, scripting original material, leading field shoots, assisting in studio shoots, creating production rundowns, making story decisions in edit, and creating social media content.

This unique opportunity will allow the Associate Producer to be directly involved in shaping content for Philadelphia’s children and developing an inclusive production process. Cultural competency, a collaborative spirit, and a thoughtful approach to building children’s program are central to the role. Enthusiasm for the project is a must and a passion for the greater Philadelphia region helps too! While production experience will be important, a positive attitude, desire to learn, and unique perspective are vital to the role.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Writes creative, original scripts for studio and field shoots, in the tone and style of the show. Comfortable receiving notes, revising scripts, collaborating with other writers, and seeking final approvals on material before shooting.
  • Books shoot locations, books guests, and coordinates details with location contact for field shoots.
  • Collaborates with production team on story pitches, production processes, and scripts.
  • Works with Production Manager to schedule crew for studio and field shoots.
  • Develops and maintains social media for program. Edits original content for social media.
  • Occasionally oversees editing of shorter packages for broadcast or string outs.
  • Maintains a regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education: No formal education required. Experience with research, Avid editing, DSLR cameras, graphic design, and animation is a plus.

Experience: 0 to 5 years experience in television production, including editing of video and audio material, experience working on short form pieces and previous experience preparing content for multimedia platform distribution will be considered. Experience in teaching, working with early elementary or preschool aged children, creative writing, or community engagement will also be considered.  Knowledge of the Philadelphia area and arts and culture scene are important.

Technical Skills: A strong willingness to learn is a must. Familiarity with social media, video editing software, Photoshop, and camera equipment will be considered.
