Corporate and Foundation Grants Officer (CFGO)

Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy and Stewardship (DOPS) in the Progress Department, the grants officer is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and closing grants with current and new prospects. The CFGO works with the DOPS to develop and manages a growing file of foundation and corporate philanthropists who support Rhode Island Public Radio; maintains an active grants calendar, and builds a dynamic portfolio of prospects with whom relationships are built through personal visits and regular correspondence. The grants officer is responsible for writing and submitting giving proposals and producing results reports in a timely manner.

Core Responsibilities

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of prospects who contribute to RIPR’s annual, restricted, and special campaign initiatives. Develop prospect management strategies for new and previously identified corporate and foundation prospects, working in collaboration with the Progress team and the CEO
  • Seek opportunities for future institutional growth and recognize the potential impact of the ambitions of our team and co-creators
  • Deliver grant requests, results reports, and other materials as needed to corporate and foundation funders
  • Possess an exceptional ability to internalize RIPR’s mission in order to craft meaningful giving proposals to existing and potential funders
  • Develop project budgets and prepare annual goals. Participate with the Progress team in the annual goal setting and budgeting process
  • Use database to track donor relationships and funding applications
  • Work with the news director and journalism team to ensure we are complying with grant guidelines and to generate ideas for new funding opportunities
  • Monitor and evaluate progress toward goals, provide statistical reports, and suggest/request appropriate research for individual/group, corporation and foundation prospects
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of three years’ experience in grant writing and management in a non-profit setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Database management skills (Raiser’s Edge preferred)
  • Demonstrated understanding of and passion for public media and its mission
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required to relate to donor prospects, volunteers, and colleagues
  • Well-developed written, oral communication, and research skills
  • A self-starter who can drive initiatives and who works well both independently and collaboratively
  • Possess high level of integrity and able to exercise confidentiality and discretion in handling funder information
  • Functions well in a fast-paced work environment where a strong sense of humor and a dedication to professional excellence are vital to success

This is a full-time salaried position with benefits including health, dental, and vision, 401k, three weeks paid vacation, and more. Salary is commensurate with experience.
