Position Title: Engineer Technician I or Engineer Technician II
Department: Broadcast & Audio-Visual Srvcs
Term of Assignment: Continuing
Term End Date, If Applicable:
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt = overtime eligible
Work Schedule: Traditionally Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm with occasional evening and weekend work.
One position is available with the potential to be filled at the Engineer Technician I or Engineer Technician II level consistent with the selected applicant’s qualifications.
Salary: Targeted salary range: Engineer Technician I $43,120-$45,815; Engineer Technician II $47,920-$50,300
Travel: Less than 10%
Brief Statement of Duties
Assist with the design, installation, configuration, integration, and maintenance of equipment for acquisition, production, streaming, and broadcast for WNMU-TV/FM and WUPX. Keep production/acquisition facilities operational and the broadcast stations on the air while ensuring compliance with FCC regulations. Assist department staff to design, install, configure, and maintain academic and other university audio visual systems.

Engineer Technician I:
Associate’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Engineer Technician II:
Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Engineer Technician I and II:
Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
Required Minimum Work Experience:
Engineer Technician I:
Two years’ broadcast engineering or related technical field.
Engineer Technician II:
Four years’ broadcast engineering or related technical field.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:
Engineer Technician II:
Ability to interpret information, use independent reasoning and critical thinking to diagnose the root cause of situations or issues, identify and test solutions, and think beyond what is typical or customary. Ability to decipher information to determine benefits and impact in making decisions and/or recommendations.
Engineer Technician I and Engineer Technician II:
Ability to quickly learn to operate new equipment and software, and to teach others.
Knowledge of networking practices required for the proper installation and configuration of networked devices.
Knowledge of digital and analog wiring and best practices.
Demonstrated ability to repair electronic circuit boards at the component level.
Ability to accurately and efficiently perform required computerized tasks to include any combination of word-processing, spreadsheet, data base, e-mail, internet or web-based applications.
Ability to communicate effectively and function as a member of a team.
Ability to stand, climb, stoop, and crouch for extended periods of time, and able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. for short periods of time for installation, maintenance, and repair of broadcast and AV systems with or without reasonable accommodations.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed and be on call for broadcast emergencies.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Engineer Technician I:
Possess a high level of mechanical aptitude and excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Engineer Technician II:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics, IT, Broadcasting, Media Technology, or related field.
Manufacturer certifications in various IT, broadcast, or A/V technology.
Professional certifications in A/V equipment operation and/or software.
Experience providing functional leadership to others.
Engineer Technician I and Engineer Technician II:
Understanding of radio frequency technology and terminology.
Knowledge of broadcast tower FCC and FAA requirements.
Understanding of video technology, terminology and program production methods.
Knowledge of digital communications protocols and interconnects.
