The Opportunity
OPB is seeking an innovative, pragmatic and collaborative individual to serve as our first Equity Leader. We’ve spent the last three years intentionally working on our journey, particularly focused on racial equity. We’ve worked with outside consultants to conduct a cultural assessment, to hold a number of large and small educational opportunities for all of our staff, to initiate a pay equity study and to create affinity-based learning and support groups. Here is this past year’s detailed annual report about our inclusivity, diversity, equity and accessibility (IDEA) work. We are proud of the work that we’ve been doing, and we know there is so much left to do.
As a journalism organization serving Oregon and SW Washington, we are charting our own course toward becoming an inclusive, anti-racism organization. As a part of this, we must acknowledge our past and how that has influenced our present. In the coming months and years, we have an ambitious agenda to continue our journey. One of our next major initiatives is aimed at dismantling organizational and individual power-hoarding. Our Senior Leadership Group (SLG) is committed to leading the way to inclusive decision making and power sharing and is doing intentional work this fall and winter around leadership and power.
We are excited to welcome an Equity Leader who will be energized by the work we have done and exhilarated to lead the way forward. We hope to find an individual who knows when to leverage our existing culture and when to challenge it. We seek a professional who can lead with conviction and empathy to help OPB move forward.
