KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio is Seattle’s NPR news station. We are an independent, nonprofit news organization producing award-winning journalism, podcasts, and events in service to the 3.9 million people in our coverage area. As a self-sustaining service of the University of Washington, our mission is to create and serve a more informed public.
We have an outstanding opportunity for a Group Manager, Digital Product Management to serve as a digital thought-leader and expert, overseeing a team consisting of a Product Manager, UX Designer, and Web Developer, assessing the benefits and tradeoffs of adopting and provisioning new digital processes and technologies. This individual will document and communicate the strategic vision, objectives, scope, risks, and success criteria to senior leadership and throughout the organization as set by the Sr. Director of Digital Product. They build innovative digital experiences across mobile platforms, desktop and other devices that support KUOW’s business needs and growing audiences. The person selected for this role must help build consensus for change with end users and organizational stakeholders including the content creators of on-air broadcasts, podcasts and other digital media content and member-focused services. They will also work with multiple external vendors to accomplish KUOW’s goals.
Position Responsibilities
Defines Product Requirements
• Develops strategic initiatives and operational plans and manages a portfolio of digital roadmaps
• Gathers business requirements; understands and provides input into design and user experience requirements. Understands and provides input into technical requirements
• Develops and gains approval for department strategies and objectives and key results (OKRs)
• Prioritize tasks to support organization’s strategies to meet OKRs (e.g., financial targets, audience growth targets, etc.)
• In collaboration with the Digital Division head, set and track budget and expenses to achieve OKRs
Oversees Day-to-Day Digital Operations
• Oversees the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and performance measurement of digital platforms
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities of direct reports including planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems
• Manages specified KPIs and collect data/feedback on digital performance against business goals
Collaborates across Internal Teams and External Vendors to Achieve Goals
• Acts as liaison between departments and outside vendors for development and maintenance of website and other tech platforms
• Creates buy-in and consensus for the product roadmaps and OKRs with key internal and external partners
• Drives dialog with Sr. Leadership, internal engineering teams, external vendors, and program management to deliver integrated services that support achievement of our Strategic Business Plan
• Supports change management and adoption of technology-related processes, tools and services
Requirements include:
• A Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years’ experience in Product Management, technical and UX Digital, E-Commerce, IT, and/or Digital Marketing to include experience leading teams and managing vendors.
• Experience building and fostering a strong product culture that rewards innovation, rapid testing, and continuous learning.
• High degree of business acumen and technical competency; ability to balance and bridge technology and business needs.
• Experience in managing, motivating and mentoring product management staff.
• Budget creation and program tracking/analysis.
• A demonstrated ability to lead in a team-oriented setting. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required, both written and oral. Deep knowledge of Salesforce and/or content management systems a plus.
• Familiarity with public media and/or journalism-focused goals, objectives and processes preferred.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
