Job Description

• Serves as KNAU’s local, live host/anchor during NPR’s flagship program, Morning Edition.

• Operates master control room equipment including audio console.

• Writes news copy. Prepares and voices newscasts.

• Exercises professional news judgment in selecting news and information content. Prepares and reviews program materials prior to broadcast.

• Uses a variety of sources including Associated Press copy; public service, underwriting, and weather announcements; pre-recorded rundowns and other material for inclusion in Morning Edition.

• Writes/posts web and social media copy during on-air shift and during breaking news.

• General assignment reporter. Produces and reports news features and interviews in a highly produced, edited, well-written style.

• Fills in on other KNAU air shifts as assigned.

• Participates in KNAU on-air fundraising and promotional efforts.

• Represents the station at community functions and events

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication or related field and two years experience as a radio host and news reporter.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Adobe Audition or other digital audio editing software.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge

• Knowledge about northern Arizona and the region is desirable.

• Knowledge of public radio, public affairs reporting, and broadcast news standards

Skills

• Strong on-air presence compatible with the NPR sound.

• Proven track record of reporting or hosting in a journalistic setting.

Abilities

• Demonstrated ability to report, write and produce network-quality interviews and features.

• Demonstrated problem solving ability and solid news judgment.

• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Familiarity with audio storytelling, audio editing and automation software, the public media system and community engagement

Salary

Salary range begins at $41,421. Annual salary commensurate with candidate’s qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position.
