KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio is Seattle’s NPR news station. We are an independent, nonprofit news organization producing award-winning journalism, podcasts, and events in service to the 3.9 million people in our coverage area. As a self-sustaining service of the University of Washington, our mission is to create and serve a more informed public.

KUOW is seeking a Relationship Officer responsible for engaging with people who donate $1000+ annually to KUOW. The primary duty of this role is to authentically connect with and steward a portfolio of KUOW donors and listeners, increasing their loyalty, satisfaction, annual giving, and upgrading. The ideal candidate will be an easy communicator who finds fulfillment in bonding with others. A passion for public radio is a strong plus.

Identify, research, appreciate, and stewards a portfolio of 500+/- individuals, using tools like Salesforce and Gravyty to accomplish this work efficiently. Communicate with KUOW supporters through phone, email and letters/notes ensuring the best treatments based on all available information. Test, implement, and document strategies and tactics that help to increase the number and engagement of individuals who give to KUOW. Collaborating with colleagues across KUOW’s philanthropy, marketing, and membership departments, compose and share communications that are inspiring, thoughtful, and consistent with the KUOW brand. The officer will help KUOW donors to understand the impact of their giving.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Frontline Fundraising (85%)

• Administers fundraising activities that support KUOW’s overall health and growth.
• Cultivates donors who give between $1,200 and $9,999 annually, maintaining an evolving portfolio of 500+/- donors, in alignment with KUOW’s qualify/disqualify policies.
• Develops and implements activities to advance individuals in portfolio through all aspects of the gift cycle: initiating contact, developing appropriate cultivation strategies, moving potential donors in timely fashion to solicitation and closure, providing stewardship.
• Supports efforts to identify, research, solicit, cultivate, steward, and communicate with major donor prospects.
• Supports efforts to identify and cultivate estate and planned gifts.
• Records all cultivation activities within donor database of record.
• Works with marketing teams to develop and execute communication strategies and materials appropriate for donors within portfolio.
• Actively supports the activities of Membership, Marketing, Major Donor and Planned Giving programs.

Program Management (10%)

• Contributes to and supports the creation of annual plans for Philanthropy and develops personal annual plans which align with KUOW’s strategic impact framework and with the Philanthropy Dept. Annual Plans.
• Prepares regular reports and analysis to monitor productivity and health of portfolio.
• Adheres to KUOW’s established protocols for fundraising including qualification and disqualification, stewardship, cultivation, and solicitation policies. Contributes to the continued enhancement of these policies.
• Periodically attends meetings and conferences as a representative of KUOW.
• Assists with events, pledge drives, general membership programs and other duties as assigned.

Other Duties as Assigned (5%)

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Position reports to the Director of Development.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Occasional task-oriented work-study or part-time employees and volunteers.

Requirements include:

• A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, AND two or more years of professional experience with demonstrated success in cultivating relationships with customers, donors and/or other stakeholders (i.e., buyers, students, or volunteers).
• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate successfully in writing, by phone or in person.
• Proven ability to work professionally, collegially, and effectively with donors or other constituents, colleagues, and the public.
• Ability to work independently, problem solve, take initiative, and handle multiple projects and deadlines in an organized and professional manner.
• Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Desired:

• Familiarity with and appreciation of public radio programming a strong plus.
• Working knowledge of fundraising databases desirable, preferably Salesforce.
• Fluency in other languages (such as Spanish, Russian, Somali, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, American Sign Language)
