The Opportunity
OPB has a new and exciting opportunity! We are expanding our Arts and Culture team to include two Video Producers/Reporters. In this position you’ll produce stories on a wide array of art topics, such as literary art, performing arts, visual arts, and interactive arts. Stories will primarily be short form and adaptable to platforms such as TikTok, Snapchat, Meta and YouTube. There is ample opportunity for creativity, both to tell those stories that haven’t been told and to experiment with technology such as virtual reality in your work.

Position Details
The Arts & Culture Video Producer/Reporter researches, writes and reports short-form and long-form arts and culture stories through TV, social media, web, radio and podcasts. This is an ensemble-based department, where staff collaborate in various ways and stages to bring stories to life. Working primarily in video, the Producer/Reporter is nimble and moves from Tiktok to Snapchat to audio or digital video formats with ease and works both independently and with a production crew in the field. Delivering robust content ranging from breaking news to social media shorts to enterprise investigative stories, this position seeks out diverse voices and unheard stories about creativity and culture in Oregon and SW Washington. The Video Producer/Reporter develops sources, obtains public records and crafts complex enterprise news reports while taking advantage of software and online publishing tools to present data with visual impact and maximum interactive audience engagement. Collaborates with other content producers within the Arts and Culture team, and across OPB’s content teams to develop and produce multimedia editorial projects.

Responsibilities
65% – Working with the Executive Editor, Arts & Culture, the video producer/reporter develops story pitches, identifies and interviews subjects, gathers media assets and produces stories in video, audio, photo and/or text formats, as appropriate to be delivered to across OPB’s multiple platforms.
• Uses media asset management (MAM) and content management systems (CMS) to plan, manage and share stories and related media assets.
• Work includes both enterprise concepts and coverage of developing news in the arts/culture environment.
• Tell stories through thoroughly reported and well-crafted short form videos
• Develops and maintains sources, uses data sets, obtains public records, and includes visuals in content.
• Provides regular updates to the Executive Editor and participates in editorial planning meetings and conversations.
• Collaborates with and assists OPB arts colleagues to support their efforts to both celebrate and investigate arts & culture stories.
• Maintains a social media presence. Stays informed on the latest social media platforms to effectively deliver arts and culture content to OPB audience.
• Adheres to OPB’s ethics and editorial standards. Upholds high journalistic standards to ensure that accuracy, thoroughness, and fairness are central characteristics of all content presented.

15% – Appears on OPB programs such as “Think Out Loud®” or local newsmagazine segments to talk about specific stories and topic area generally as a subject matter expert.

15% – Participate in community engagement efforts related to a curated Arts & Culture enterprise beat.

5% – Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
Work is done in the field when gathering material for stories and in an office or edit suite using a computer and other office or production equipment to produce completed stories. Fieldwork includes regular in-state and regional travel and requires working evenings or weekends, and possibly working in inclement weather. Driving is required. Lifting and carrying equipment up to 20lbs is sometimes required.

Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.
· Three years experience producing news content in a deadline-oriented environment.
· Demonstrated experience in videography, editing, writing and photography.
· Experience with social media tools such as TikTok, Snapchat and Twitter.
· Ability to use data to find and tell stories and to visualize data through mapping, graphics, and interactive tools.
· Strong oral and written communication, on-camera presentation & interpersonal skills.
· Experience with Freedom of Information Act requests (FOIA), enterprise reporting techniques.

Preferred Qualifications
· Experience producing broadcast-quality video or audio content.
· Ability to construct stories across several distribution platforms
· Experience telling stories about creativity and culture.
· An interest in exploring VR/AR/MR/XR storytelling possibilities

Additional Information
• This position reports to the Executive Editor, Arts & Culture and is benefits eligible.
• The probable hiring range for this exempt position is between $70,000 and $75,000 annually, depending on qualifications.
• For the safety of our employees, the contractors/vendors we work with, and the public we serve, OPB has a mandatory COVID vaccination policy and all employees are required to show proof of vaccination.
• This position requires a valid driver’s license and will requires consent to OPB conducting a driving record check. Employees will not be allowed to use a company or personal vehicle for work purposes without completion and satisfactory results of this check.
