CPB is currently seeking to hire a Vice President, Television Content Strategy. This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Television Content.
General Description:
Principal deputy to the SVP of Television Content. Plans, leads, and executes projects and strategic initiatives that advance a mission-focused pipeline of content for national distribution across broadcast and digital platforms. Works with the SVP to develop grantmaking opportunities that increase public media’s delivery of content and services across the demographic spectrum of American society. Communicates and interacts with public media leaders, content executives and other stakeholders to identify and support new projects and talent. Works with TV content department staff to ensure grants and initiatives are effectively managed in adherence to CPB policies and procedures. Helps facilitate grant project development to optimize investments across television and digital platforms; provides guidance for the department’s digital content investments; and leads and manages key initiatives that advance public media’s role in an evolving media landscape. Works collaboratively with other CPB vice presidents and staff to ensure that CPB-wide initiatives and TV content department’s activities are closely coordinated within CPB.
Specific Duties:
- Works closely with the SVP to develop strategies that inform the department annual business plan; Establishes operational strategies to support the annual business plan.
- Seeks and cultivates ideas for high quality and diverse general audience content for U.S. public television national audiences that advance CPB’s goals and objectives. Cultivates and maintains relationships with PBS, national production entities, and the independent producer community to bring high-impact national broadcast and digital content to public media audiences.
- Works with CPB’s senior leadership and public media system leaders to develop strategies that utilize digital content and platforms to extend the impact and accessibility of public broadcasting’s content and services.
- Reviews grant submissions and works with department staff on the assessment of project concepts, proposals, and budgets; Works with department staff and CPB attorneys to ensure grants and contracts are appropriately structured to comply with CPB policies.
- Establishes evaluation and follow-up actions to assess the effect and/or impact of projects and strategies.
- Provides supervision and oversees the work of assigned staff in guiding complex portfolios of projects.
- Maintains strategic oversight of the department’s pipeline of projects, including projects under consideration and active grants.
- Writes business plans, reports, project assessments, board memos and other documentation needed to communicate the work of the department.
- Works closely with the Communications Department to coordinate public relations strategies for projects.
- Represents CPB at conferences and other events.
- Coordinates with colleagues in other CPB departments on cross-departmental initiatives and projects and interfaces with executive offices, including the Office of the COO, Office of the General Counsel, and the Office of the Chief Financial Officer.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (i.e., Communications, Media, Business Management).
- Seven to ten years of leadership experience in content development across digital media platforms and traditional broadcast media.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, particularly the abilities to develop strategy and policy, manage multiple priorities, and lead efforts through execution and implementation.
- Ability to manage staff and teams to achieve objectives, as well as demonstrated experience of effectively working in a collaborative and diverse work environment.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written, with a demonstrated proficiency in business writing, and the ability to communicate effectively before large groups in a public setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar software.
- Ability to travel.
Desired Qualifications:
- Advanced degree.
- Experience with national issues in public television through involvement in national or affinity organizations.
- Familiarity with TV and media production methodologies and grant-making processes.
