Position Summary

Baltimore Public Media (WYPR 88.1 FM and WTMD 89.7 FM) seeks a creative and mission-driven Executive Producer to lead the development, production, and execution of our local host-driven shows and special programming. Reporting to the News Director, the Executive Producer will oversee all locally produced shows—including Pass the Mic, Midday, and newly developed programs. This position is responsible for setting high editorial and production standards, fostering collaboration across teams, and ensuring programming reflects Baltimore’s diverse voices, perspectives, and communities.

This is a unique opportunity to help build a new public media program that explores and amplifies the culture, issues, and voices of Greater Baltimore through thoughtful, community-driven conversations and localized journalism.

Key Responsibilities

· Lead the editorial vision and production workflow for all locally produced programs and shows.

· Supervise and mentor hosts, producers, and production staff to ensure editorial excellence and professional growth.

· Collaborate with the News Director, Program Director and Chief of Content to develop and launch new shows, pilots, and special series aligned with BPM’s mission and strategy.

· Oversee program calendars, run-downs, scripts, and editorial decision-making to maintain consistent quality and timeliness.

· Guide the integration of diverse community voices, ensuring programming represents Greater Baltimore’s successes, challenges, and complexities.

· Collaborate with other departments (digital, membership, marketing, underwriting) to maximize audience engagement across platforms.

· Maintain strong editorial standards, ethics, and adherence to journalistic best practices.

· Monitor performance metrics, listener feedback, and community impact to guide ongoing improvement.

· Serve as the key point of contact for local program operations, addressing challenges with sound editorial judgment and practical solutions.

Qualifications

· At least 5 years of experience in audio journalism, public radio, or podcast production

· Strong editorial judgment, attention to detail, and a solid sense of narrative journalism

· Excellent research, writing, and communication skills

· Audio editing proficiency (Adobe Audition)

· Demonstrated ability to elevate diverse voices and topics with nuance and sensitivity

· Demonstrated patience working with colleagues new to a process

· General awareness of local and regional news

· Familiarity with Greater Baltimore’s successes, challenges and the diversity within communities is highly preferred

· Able to lead by example, delegate respectfully and make sound independent decisions, especially in times of breaking news.

· Foster a collaborative team spirit based on mutual respect

· Bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass-communications or a related field
