ParticipantHi Judith!
With a smaller staff I see you’re still making great strides and work through your campaigns! With using volunteers what type of training would make you comfortable to use them? Or the best approach to them to best convey your stations mission and goals.

ParticipantWOW! 50 years!! Has there been any new changes or models’ you’ve implemented from your great standing with on-air campaigns? I also think using volunteers seems like such a great idea, it adds to the genuine ask for other people to not only donate but to also become a member!

ParticipantHi Russell!
It’s interesting to see that you keep it to 3 people in the booth, is that throughout the entirety of each campaign as well? How often do you switch out the hosts, reporters, and your team to pitch so it isn’t the same people on air for so long?

Participant1). Who from your station needs to be on your team? What important role does each of them play?
2). Have you involved these team members in past drives?
3). Are there any new additions to your team that you’ve considered?1. Our core team that helps within each fundraising campaign is our On-Air Fundraising team, the program director for the fundraising station at the time (TV, FM, or Music), so we can understand what programming and schedule they have for us to fundraise around. Marketing/communications so we can get a digital footprint and plan around certain drawings, etc for the campaign. But, just as Jay and Melanie mentioned we still see it as a collaborative opportunity from the entire station to help fundraise! Membership so we can make our members aware of the upcoming (or ongoing) campaign to filter any questions or needs.
2. Yes, these team members or positions have been included and reached upon for awhile.
3. I think we want a bigger net and opportunity for our station employees who haven’t helped with talent yet available for sure! We want to have a diverse group of voices on air representing the station because they ARE the station!

ParticipantHi Judith! For Megan, I definitely think a call to action is just the thing she needs. Knowing the request and that she can donate to the station, or further support the podcast she already enjoys. Maybe with Andrew would he enjoy a incentive to possibly volunteer? Or maybe a partnership with the Boys & Girls Club with school packs that he could add to his gift when donating! Or program or experience where he could visit the local parks.

ParticipantI definitely see the conflict with “over listing” on-air, we try to refrain from saying more than one premium or gift during a pitch! Sometimes I do believe that offering more of a experience like a trip or concert can help when listing or mentioning a incentive to donate on-air, how has that experience been if you tried?

ParticipantHi Patton! Great personas! How old is John? Just curious on the age frame that is used or hoped for when looking for Major Donors? Also, has their been success or good engagement with your station using Tik tok or reels?

Participant1. Personas
Leila Matthews: A Latino 28 yrs. Old. BA in English and is currently single. She is in the mid-middle class. She’s an ally of the LGBTQIA+ and makes it known that she’s all about equality and inclusion. She loves being out in community areas and supporting small businesses. She loves music but due to the pandemic she hasn’t been to many concerts. She listens to KXT throughout the day and Monday’s for our New Music Monday with Gini. Our goal with Leila would be to get her to post on social media about our KXT Events and who we are.
Kelton Davis: An African American 55 years old close to retiree school administrator. He’s in the upper middle class. He enjoys comradery among his close-knit friends and is a family man. He loves the alternative, rock classics and eclectic sounds that KXT plays. He likes to mentor and educate the younger generations when possible of hard work, being active, and being true. He listens to KXT when he’s working around the house and sometimes in the car. He likes Friday’s for their “Funky Friday” set. Our goal with Kelton would be to get him interested in becoming a donor that leans toward major giving and become a volunteer.2. What does your listener value?
Both listeners value community and the opportunities surrounding to help it. Finding the best way to represent this as well. Matthews love hearing all kinds of voices and representation, while Davis has his set likes and doesn’t really move from it. Matthews enjoys the arts and seeing where she can support her culture and interests. Davis, while in his ways steadily with staying close to home and what he knows, he likes knowing of different educational or knowledge base things that he can spread through W.O.M or to any mentees.3. How does your station represent those values?
KXT represents arts and culture with trying to stay aware of our community and how we best need to showcase ourselves. We want to keep it local with not only our music but events we attempt to do. We are lacking some in educational forward opportunities at this time but would love to look at partnering again with Girls Inc. or a Musical School Program opportunity to draw in educational lovers.4. What does your station promise that aligns with these values?
KXT always holds a promise to stay local and keep the music coming that is not only new but brings the nostalgia. Especially during a fundraising drive with our different “Program day” themes like “Throwback Thursday” “KXT gems”, etc. We want to give our audience the music but also keep them interested in their community through us and support!August 4, 2022 at 1:58 pm in reply to: Module 1, Lesson 2 – The Fundamentals of On-air Fundraising (Summer 2022) #19076jstimpson@kera.org
ParticipantHello Nicole! I have never heard of silent drives before, what does it entail differently from a on-air drive and digital drive? What does it all entail?

ParticipantHi Julien! It definitely seems like even if you think your role is “small” you have a lot of knowledge and planning attributed to your strategy tactics for your drive! Please keep us up to date on this because I would love to utilize our Social Media cloud more during campaigns more than just stating online we are in a fundraiser! I would love to incorporate more engagement.

ParticipantHi Kigers! WOW 76 years of the station that is remarkable! Completely agree with keeping in mind of Major Donors during the campaign, we have scripting for it but I do wonder are their other tactics or strategy we can do with retaining and gaining new major donors during our campaign besides just mentioning we offer that level of giving?
August 3, 2022 at 4:39 pm in reply to: Module 1, Lesson 2 – The Fundamentals of On-air Fundraising (Summer 2022) #19049jstimpson@kera.org
Participant1. How long has your station conducted on-air fundraising?
From my own knowledge I feel like on-air fundraising has occurred at my station for sometime now, HOWEVER I do believe different components for fundraising have been incorporated or taken away. Some may resurface, we shall see!
2. Have you been involved in the planning process?
I have been involved in the planning (fundraising) process under a year as the on-air fundraising associate!3. What other elements of fundraising do you need to be aware of at your station as you plan your on-air campaign?
I definitely agree that we need to be aware and have cohesive messaging on all fundraising aspects such as digital, direct mail, and social! Especially during a campaign we want to make sure our messaging, theme, and work all go together and it differs clearly when we are NOT in a campaign.August 1, 2022 at 10:24 pm in reply to: Module 1, Lesson 1 – Course Introduction (Summer 2022) #19005jstimpson@kera.org
ParticipantHi Sonsera! I definitely think we are all in the same boat when trying to find the right ways to fundraise during these difficult times! We have used some different messaging and tweaked goals, but could there be more? I hope to find out while we are in this class! 🙂

ParticipantHi Patton! So curious to what entails on being the Listener and Donor Services Coordinator? Sounds like a great position to where you’re close to not only your listeners and donors to see how they’re receiving and enjoying your station! Have there been any ideas or comments that your station has utilized or incorporated given from your listeners??

ParticipantHello! My name is Nora Stimpson, On-Air Fundraising Associate for KERA/KXT in Dallas, TX.
1. Our music station (KXT) is a AAA, I have been in my role for about 10 months, I moved from our Revenue Operations Team to On-Air Fundraising! I have been in the nonprofit world for about 4.5 years and public media for 2 years!
2. The biggest pain point I feel I am learning about is sensitivity to our community and outside world while attempting to fundraise; it can be tough to toggle the respect and understanding there’s a lot going on in the world but we do still need to fundraise to make sure we can bring more music, news, and interest to our fellow community as well!
3. I hope to gain more professional connections, and hearing what creative opportunities that are possible through on-air fundraising that other AAA stations are doing within their realms. Also just excited to know more about Public Media within different stations! -
