    – We use sweepstakes as an additional reason to keep our audience motivated to donate aside from the love they feel for the station.
    – We had to adapt to the financial challenge, otherwise, our goals would be higher.
    – People keep making donations but after the pandemic started everything has been more challenging. I think the economy plays a crucial role here.
    – We must pivot in order to move forward. Coming up with other fundraising ideas to support our drives is key!

    – Every department in our station touches our fundraising drives in some way. Some of the departments that are closely involved are marketing, content, and IT.
    – Yes, they’ve all been involved in the past drives and I feel that more people get involved every time, which is very positive!
    – Yes, we are currently seeking to fill a position for Digital acquisition. Different members of the Membership team have been covering these pieces, but we need to have one person/small team only dedicated to this.

It is crucial for stations to be a reflection of their community, that’s why it’s important that we consider the many elements and differences in our community to offer content/information/benefits/events that are relevant to our actual audience.

We tend to link public media with college-educated people in their 50’s+ but the reality is that we have to expand our horizons, our audience is way more diverse than that.

    1. WABE has been doing on-air fundraising for many years.
    2. Yes, I’ve been involved in the planning process for the past two drives. Great experience! Lots of pieces to coordinate.

    Hi and welcome!
I’m also new to public media and I’m very excited to be part of this family now.
I hear you, sometimes the programs, talent, and particular situation could become a challenge when it comes to keep the energy up. But you can do it 😉

    Hi everyone!

    1. I recently joined Atlanta’s WABE as the Events & Stewardship Coordinator. Before joining WABE, I worked in commercial television for 7 years, while always volunteering for public media in different roles.

    2. The biggest pain point around on-air fundraising is definitely find the right incentives to motivate our listeners and viewers to contribute to the station.

    3. Everything I’ll learn in this workshop will be extremely useful, I’m new to public media as an employee and I’m open to learning everything in terms of the right strategies, current practices and tools to meet our goal of Amplifying Atlanta.
