Description

This position leads the on-air membership fundraising unit within the WAMU Membership Department and serves as the main liaison with programming, production, web and marketing staff for its activities. The Assistant Director uses a creative, entrepreneurial and results-oriented approach to fundraising efforts that advances listener involvement – serving the priority of securing maximum new and re-acquired member participation, maximum sustainer participation, and upgrades in previous giving levels.  This position is responsible for planning and implementing strategies to boost station membership and member support, growing campaign revenue to a level consistent with top performing public media stations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Five (5) years of experience in public broadcasting fundraising or in a related area;
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate and manage fundraising initiatives;
  • Understanding of public broadcasting fundraising concepts practices, and procedures;
  • Possess a complete understanding of mechanics and philosophy of membership fundraising including membership campaign production, year-round positioning announcements, major donor spots, planned giving spots and other membership activities;
  • Demonstrated experience in on-air fundraising and other membership campaigns;
  • Experience with public radio/public TV on-air talent;
  • Demonstrated technical, broadcast production and editing experience;
  • Demonstrated computer skills and database management experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others in developing, planning and implementing interdepartmental goals and strategies;
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills as well as customer service savvy;
  • Must be able to work occasional late nights and/or weekends;
  • Stressful, demanding work environment throughout on-air campaigns and continued responsiveness to growing membership program;
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in communication, or related field.
