About the Role

The Billy Penn Development & Engagement Manager will work with Billy Penn’s editor (and reporters) on growing and strengthening BP’s revenue streams via the membership program, donor development, and sponsorships.

This person is highly disciplined, organized and goal-oriented with demonstrated competencies in relationship building, information management, project support, donor research and verbal and written communication.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This person will work throughout the year with Billy Penn’s editor to develop organic lead generation strategies and create messaging to be deployed on the website and social media platforms to gain new members from the site’s current audience. This person will manage and deepen member communications with the goal of increasing support among current members, and will handle general audience services via email and telephone.

This person will also manage Billy Penn’s mid-level and major gifts fundraising program — with guidance from the WHYY Major Gifts department — through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, and will create and execute plans with individual donors.

Additionally, this person will funnel prospects for corporate sponsorships to WHYY Underwriting, and be the Billy Penn liaison for creating, packaging and pitching said sponsorships.

To support membership, major gifts, and sponsorship effort, the person also has the potential to brainstorm sponsored events or published series in collaboration with Billy Penn editor.

Qualifications
Education: College degree or equivalent experience

Experience: 2+ years of experience in audience development; experience managing and cultivating mid-level or major philanthropic donors.

Technical Skills: Familiarity with email software (e.g. Mailchimp) and CRM software (Salesforce knowledge ideal)
