KUOW has an outstanding opportunity for a Board Engagement Officer to build positive community relations and support the engagement and impact of the KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio Board of Directors by supporting board operations. Manage board communication and meeting logistics; provide strategic guidance and project management; and provide high-level staffing to board members

BASIC FUNCTION

The Board Engagement Officer (BEO) supports and facilitates the effective operations of the KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio (PSPR) Board of Directors. The BEO has primary responsibility for all logistics related to board and committee meetings as well as events and other engagements.

This position plays a key role in board communication, producing and distributing materials and maintaining the board’s web presence. Along with the General Manager/President and Director of Administrative Operations & Culture the BEO develops and maintains strong working relationships with board leadership and members, proactively ensuring they are prepared and supported to lead effectively.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

I. Board Communication (30%)

• Writes and edits public facing documents for the PSPR Board of Directors; works with internal and outside consultants to create messaging.
• Manage and track projects on Board’s Onboard site. Create communication documents to facilitate projects and keep key stakeholders informed.
• In partnership with Marketing/Communications, manage board’s external profile by providing and keeping current all board information on the KUOW website; create Press Releases.
• Track board discussion and decisions, documenting, distributing, and recording. Update and maintain the Board’s site and online public file in Office 365Create, maintain and disseminate board contacts, terms, assignments, and bios.
• Maintain confidentiality as appropriate

II. Board Operations and Finance (30%)

• Achieve objectives by effectively managing the board operations, monitoring work plans, capturing action items, follow through and follow up; consistent record management, establish detailed processes, and prepares reports.
• Design and outline process for managing all Board-related meetings. Create and maintain Board Operations manual.
• Manage and allocate board resources in partnership with Director of Administrative Operations & Culture; build budget to support annual activities.
• Provide board engagement reports for Governance Committee review
• Maintain Board of Directors’ profile, contact information, and attendance record in Salesforce platform.
• Project manage annual board surveys and CEO assessments
• Ensure board meets its regulatory obligations, public notice requirements, FCC and CPB statutes
• Ensure board regulatory compliance by maintaining conflict of interest records and supplying necessary documentation for state, federal, and other audits.
• Maintain governance policies and ensure systematic review thereof.
• Train and assign work to on-call support staff

III. Board Meetings and Events (20%)

• Analyze annual workplans to create draft agendas and programs in partnership with Board Chairs
• Successfully manage timelines and execution of numerous board and committee meetings and other events throughout the year
• Schedule and manage all logistics (meeting space, audio/visual, parking, speaker support, catering, etc.) for both large and small gatherings.
• Maintain a working relationship with vendors and venues; Understand the complex needs of different events, and diverse clients.
• In consultation with board chairs, coordinate and secure speakers, and execute contracts for board events.

IV. Board Member Support (15%)

• Ensure each board member has the information and support necessary to make impact on behalf of KUOW.
• Provide professional, friendly and prompt responses to all board member inquiries.
• Proactively provide materials and support to board members, anticipating needs and questions.
• Prepare onboarding and offboarding material and service acknowledgments

V. Other Duties as Assigned (5%)

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

This position reports to the Director of Administrative Operations & Culture

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

This position supervises part-time administrative and event coordinators as needed.

Requirements include:

  • A bachelor’s degree and at least two years of applicable experience. An equivalent combination of comparable knowledge and skills may substitute for education and/or experience.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    Desired:

  • Familiarity with KUOW or public radio programming and general awareness of news and current affairs
  • Fluency in other languages a plus
