ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
WUSF Public Media is a comprehensive public media organization that operates an NPR news radio station and an all-classical music radio station, and provides digital content online, through newsletters, podcasts and social media and serves a weekly broadcast audience of greater than 350,000. WUSF Public Media is a department of the University of South Florida, with 75 employees and a budget of $11 million and provides internships to students. WUSF Public Media’s main studios are on the USF Tampa campus, with a broadcast and music performance studio on the USFSM campus and an office and news production studio on the USFSP campus.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The person in this position serves a multi-functional role. They are an on-air host for live and pre-recorded classical music shifts. They are knowledgeable about classical music and research the music’s history and recent news on present-day musicians and composers to present on the air. They are in touch with the classical music and arts-related events so they can share that information on the air and keep WSMR listeners connected with the community. They are comfortable hosting on camera as well as on radio.
They prepare scripts for live interviews and conduct live and recorded interviews with composers, musicians, and conductors.
They participate in on-air fundraising campaigns.
They contribute to station promotional writing and production and produce promotional spots. They do voice recording for WUSF Public Media
They engage with audience on social media and digital platforms, including video.
They participate in station events onsite and at remote locations, representing WUSF Public Media in different venues. They do live on-stage hosting/introduction of concerts.
They work with student interns; helping them learn all aspects of classical music radio production.
They produce and create podcasts that provides the stories behind the music.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Hosts primary workplace will be at the WUSF Public Media/WSMR Studios. Remote work may be permitted in coordination with a supervisor. Typical work week is Monday through Friday. There may be occasions where evenings or weekend work may be required.

They work in the WSMR music library, cataloging new music, entering it into the database and assisting the music programmer.
They represent WUSF Public Media in different venues and do live, on-stage hosting and introduction of concerts. They engage with audience on social media and digital platforms, including video.
They work with student interns; helping them learn all aspects of classical music radio production.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Music, Communications or related field and two years of directly related experience; or a Master’s degree in the field listed above. Four years of experience as a host, preferably a music programming host, on a broadcast station/podcast or a combination of education and experience may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree.
PREFERRED:
The preferred candidate will demonstrate a deep knowledge of classical music, which may include formal education/training or professional experience.
