Who We Are:

WTVS Detroit Public Television (DPTV) is the viewer-supported PBS member station serving the nation’s 11th largest television market.  We operate Channels 56.1, 56.2 and 56.3, and are carried on cable and satellite systems throughout Southeast Michigan and over a thousand communities in Canada.   We also operate WRCJ 90.9 FM, the classical and jazz radio station licensed to the Detroit Public Schools. Our vision is to educate, entertain and inspire, in partnership with our community.

DPTV is notably active in the community producing local programs that showcase arts, culture, news and analysis; and educational outreach campaigns that use the power of media to provide knowledge and understanding.

We are actively pursuing dynamic and diverse team members to join us in the role of Communications and Digital Coordinator  in Wixom, MI.

 

What You’ll Do:

The Communications and Digital Coordinator works with Communications Department to develop and implement communications strategies in order to promote Detroit Public Television’s programming, initiatives and events.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Execute national social media and assist with implementation of local social media strategies as needed.
  • Create engaging social media strategies to promote DPTV’s brand.
  • Led on all social media associated with stream-related jobs.
  • Produce on-air spots for promotional purposes and underwriting deliverables.
  • Write scripts for on-air spots.
  • Write copy for print and digital assets.
  • Write content for various collateral materials, such as flyers, brochures, media kits, etc.
  • Assist the Member Events Manager with event planning logistics, as well as with recruiting volunteers for pledge and other events, including ordering food, making follow-up calls, creating the volunteer schedule, and more.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Skills:

  • Excellent social media skills and deep understanding of all social platforms
  • Excellent writing skills for print and broadcast
  • Experience writing broadcast scripts
  • Ability to execute on Communications Briefs
  • Creative thinking and problem solving skills
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to work effectively across all lines of the organization
  • Strong knowledge of Windows and MAC systems, Microsoft Office and all social platforms
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Journalism, Communications, English or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years communications, marketing and/or promotion experience
  • 2+ years of experience with social media across all platforms
  • Experience with ProTrack
  • Ability to work irregular and extended hours
