About the Role

The Community Relations Coordinator will help cultivate partnerships with Philadelphia area institutions, educators, and creators serving children aged 0-9 for collaboration opportunities on two original children’s shows. This role will be responsible for seeking out and building relationships with content creators, providing critical support during the development, pre-production, and production of both series.

The Community Relations Coordinator will keep a running list of possible partners, be the primary liaison between community partners and the WHYY production team, and the point of contact for all outside organizations. Additionally, the Community Relations Coordinator will connect WHYY’s education team with partner organizations to collaborate on curriculum.

This unique opportunity will allow the Community Relations Coordinator to be directly involved with a wide range of community organizations, ensuring that our production process is informed by ideas generated by those organizations. Cultural competency, a collaborative spirit, and a thoughtful approach to building children’s program are central to the role. Enthusiasm for the project is a must and a passion for the greater Philadelphia region helps too! While production experience will be important, a positive attitude, desire to learn, and unique perspective are vital to the role.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Builds relationships to local arts and culture institutions and educators around the greater Philadelphia region, ensuring representation of our broadcast area and tracking down hidden gems.
Brings ideas from community partner organizations to the production team for consideration.
Coordinates shoot details with guests and guest institutions, acting as the point person between the production team and our outside partners.
Facilities partnerships between partner organizations and WHYY’s education team for curriculum collaborations.
Maintains a regular and predictable attendance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: No formal education required.

Experience: 0 – 5 years of experience. Knowledge of the Philadelphia area and arts and culture scene is crucial. Experience in teaching, working with early elementary or preschool aged children, creative writing, or community engagement will also be considered. Knowledge of production workflows and project management skills would be beneficial.

Technical Skills: A strong willingness to learn is a must. Organization skills will be vital in this role. Familiarity with social media, video editing software, Photoshop, and camera equipment will be considered.
