Norfolk State University’s public radio station, WNSB, 91.1 FM, seeks applications for the Development Chief position.

The University’s public radio station’s objective is to provide an opportunity for students desiring to pursue a career in broadcasting, the facility and experience to learn and develop their skills in order to be competitive in acquiring a position in their chosen field. The station also serves as a valuable link to the University’s surrounding community.

The Development Chief coordinates and directs overall development efforts all initiatives, and coordinates strategies with membership and underwriting colleagues to secure corporate, foundation, government, and private funding for station operation enhancement.

The successful candidate will:

1. Develop and implement various techniques and concepts that obtain financial support for public radio station, WNSB.

2. Develop, coordinate, and supervises major and minor fund raising efforts of public radio station, WNSB.

3. Solicit prospective underwriting clients for ongoing station initiatives.

4. Develop and supervise promotional activities which promote the radio station.

5. Review, update, and maintain systems, to include membership and underwriting client database.

6. Produce quarterly newsletter; post on WNSB website.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Knowledge of media organization internal structures and working mechanism, and daily operational activities.

2. Knowledge of principles and methods of modern development, and underwriting strategies.

3. Skill in the use of multimedia software and programs, to include Microsoft Excel Word, email (Outlook) and scanning and tracking equipment.

4. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement fundraising strategies, from concept to application.

5. Demonstrated ability to perform general office and administrative duties.

6. Demonstrated ability to communicate to a diverse student-body audience, both verbally and in writing, with emphasis applied to a commitment to diversity.

7. High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of training and education that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Previous experience working as a development professional, specifically as it relates to donor cultivation and activities.
