KUOW has an outstanding opportunity for a Digital Community Outreach Coordinator who will connect communities in the Puget Sound region to KUOW’s newsroom and support KUOW in producing holistic, inclusive, and community-informed journalism. This position will develop digital engagement strategies to identify and cultivate stories or reporting topics from the community, analyze and engage with conversations happening in digital spaces, and build new audiences through digital engagements. The ideal candidate for this position is someone with deep knowledge and/or curiosity of the culture, challenges, industries, politics, and communities of Washington State. They should be highly comfortable using digital engagement tools and database systems, and love leveraging digital platforms to facilitate connections and build trust.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with the Director of Community Engagement to identify and cultivate partners and stories within the community, with a commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices;
Work with the Database Administrator to analyze content feedback, and produce weekly community feedback reports;
Oversee use and expansion of online engagement tools, including but not limited to GroundSource and Get Feedback
Engage in conversations with community members in digital spaces such as Reddit, and other online forums;
Act as a liaison between community members and the newsroom/local content staff, facilitating introductions and connections; and relay community sourced stories or reporting topics
Arrange face-to-face community engagement opportunities for KUOW journalists, such as meetings with community members, feedback panels, focus groups, and journalist happy hours.
Lead and/or co-host online community discussions;
Work with the Social Media Strategist to explore new social tools and engagement techniques;
Network with colleagues leading engagement efforts in other newsrooms around the Puget Sound region; and
Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Position reports to Director of Community Engagement
Requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field and three years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.
- Requires knowledge of professional journalism/broadcast and journalistic standards and practices
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
