Based in Sonoma County, Northern California Public Media (NorCal) serves the San Francisco region through two public television stations, KRCB and KPJK, and one public radio station, KRCB FM. As one of the very few community-owned and operated media entities serving the region, NorCal offers PBS, NPR and Independent Public Broadcasting programming. NorCal is seeking a Digital Content Manager with a talent for storytelling in the digital realm, an interest in public media, and an understanding of audience engagement analytics. The Digital Content Manager is responsible for creating and marketing timely content for NorCal’s digital platforms, focusing on enhancing reach and optimizing performance in alignment with organizational goals. This individual will support web content, from initial strategy to day-to-day updates and management of our public-facing digital properties. The Digital Content Manager will work cross-functionally and guide department teams in the creation and distribution of digital content. This position reports to the CEO.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Use data to develop a comprehensive digital media strategy – Develop, strategize, and execute unique social media campaigns, special online events, and web media presentation across multiple channels to continually grow and improve the station’s digital engagement and audience growth.
  • Manage NorCal’s daily social media programming needs – Work with staff across all departments to ensure cross-departmental collaboration on messaging. Assure that NorCal branding is consistent across social platforms. Serve as the lead moderator for NorCal social media sites and consistently and enthusiastically engage with community members.
  • Create comprehensive analytics reports on the usage of NorCal’s video streaming, web, social, and other digital platforms – Set analytics goals for digital initiatives, measure, and report metrics post-campaign; evaluate metrics and report on progress toward viewer engagement goals.
  • Work with creative content producers to create, promote, and enhance their original content for digital audiences – Advise content producers on best practices for audience engagement on social network platforms (e.g., using metadata for YouTube search optimization, when to use vertical video, and staying on top of new social media trends).
  • Serve as NorCal’s digital strategist and champion- Leverage emerging trends and new technologies relevant to NorCal’s streaming, web, digital and social platforms to grow NorCal’s digital audience.
  • Responsible for editorial content and strategy for NorCal’s websites and other digital platforms, working closely with colleagues across departments to coordinate digital messaging. Ensures content meets all editorial standards and accessibility and branding guidelines.
  • Responsible for initiating and developing, producing, writing, and editing content for NorCal’s digital and social platforms, including creating videos, features, blogs, graphics, and other content as assigned.
  • Creates, updates, and maintains web and other digital content on appropriate platforms. Monitors content on social sites. Manages the NorCal online media library.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in digital marketing, digital media, communications, media arts, new media, or a related field
  • Outstanding verbal communication and writing skills as it pertains to all internal and external communications
  • Exceptional time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks, workflow, and meet daily deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience in developing online content and marketing strategies
  • Demonstrated experience in social network platforms, the integration of social media tools in media distribution and associated metrics
  • Demonstrated experience in collecting, cleaning, analyzing, and reporting on a variety of data points
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards

  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Minimum of three years related experience or equivalent with one year plus managing employees, volunteers, and interns

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with public media programming, mission, and digital tools
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Basic HTML, SEO
  • Knowledge of CMS, digital video platforms and other relevant technology skills
  • Creating digital graphics, video/audio editing, and media production experience
