Nestled in Ohio’s most beautiful small village, and broadcasting to one of the country’s fastest-growing metropolitan regions, WYSO is looking for a talented DIGITAL EDITOR to join our team.

This position is a key element in the growth of our local newsroom, which is on track to triple in size in under two years.

As the digital editor, you’ll serve as the daily editorial manager and producer of WYSO’s digital communications platforms, including our websites, apps, streams, emails and social media accounts. You’ll support our music department and Center for Community Voices, track and analyze digital metrics, and work in collaboration with department directors to create and execute our organization’s digital strategy.

JOB DUTIES

Maintain WYSO’s daily digital presence. Update and curate the WYSO homepage, oversee the operation of our CMS, and produce stories and special projects on a variety of platforms. Edit others’ work for style, format and accuracy.

Attend daily video news meetings. Produce social media campaigns to call attention to WYSO’s work, and participate in online communities to foster conversations around the stories of the day.

Produce daily news content as required, cover breaking news, and contribute to state and regional news collaboratives as needed. Work with reporters, producers and freelancers to grow their digital skills.

Produce a weekly email newsletter. Work with colleagues to grow this platform.

Work with technical partners and vendors to oversee the upkeep of WYSO’s digital tools, including websites, apps, interactive playlists, streaming audio and productivity software. Perform other daily operational duties as assigned.

Participate in meetings; interact with colleagues to define the vision for enhanced audience engagement and wider distribution.

Maintain a working fluency in common digital analytics tools, and report out results to colleagues regularly.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Two to three years (or more) experience reporting and producing journalism on deadline with an editor at a public radio station, newspaper or television station, digital news outlet, or podcast company.

Two to three years working daily with a complex Content Management System.

Active use and understanding of common social media platforms.

A demonstrated ability to produce ethical reporting that adheres to the strictest journalistic standards.

An openness to continuous training and coaching opportunities.

An active audio listener. Someone who loves the form and the potential for local public radio made in the public interest.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of common digital advertising and marketing tools, including platforms such as Facebook, Google, YouTube and others.

Working knowledge of the NPR suite of digital station tools, including Grove.

Basic image editing skills. Video editing and design skills are a definite plus.

Knowledge and experience with HTML, CSS or other coding languages.

Experience using social media scheduling and management tools like Hootsuite.
