The Opportunity

Would you like a fully remote and flexible position? The Digital Platform Developer position may be a great opportunity for you!

OPB provides public service journalism and education through media, and your skills as a programmer/developer will ensure we can continue to serve the pacific northwest in digital platforms that exist now and those which may exist in the future.

You will be a part of a small and flexible team that works with external vendors and internal constituents to support new website and app features as well as troubleshooting bugs on both. Recent projects this team has worked on include the new OPB mobile app, a live election results page, a call to action overlay for use in gathering emails and making fundraising asks, GA4 set up and more. In the coming year we’ll be working on improvements to the new OPB.org which originally launched in the summer of 2020 and the person in this position will be a key participant in that effort.

Position Details

The Digital Platform Developer is involved in development and maintenance of OPB’s websites and mobile applications. This position reports to the Lead Digital Platform Developer and works with project teams throughout the organization to keep OPB’s digital platforms current with OPB’s strategic needs. Other duties range from daily website maintenance and assisting in troubleshooting problems with the website and mobile applications.  They will also assist in the testing of user interfaces for the web and mobile applications

Responsibilities

50% – Digital platform and service development and maintenance. Web application development.

25% – Testing, troubleshooting, and optimizing platform and service performance. Technical support for the CMS and related services.

25% – Technical triage, support, and training for the CMS and related services.

Working Conditions

Remote working environment, with opportunity to come into office if preferred. Occasionally position may require working non-traditional hours including evenings, or weekends to trouble-shoot or solve critical problems

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience with programming languages and web frameworks, both front and backend (especially React).
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • knowledgeable in the area of API development and consumption
  • Desire to continue learning and developing new skills
  • Comfortable using the command line for both Linux and Windows
  • Ability to work independently, complete tasks on schedule, and manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Good time management skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical peers
  • Motivated by the goals of public media, especially providing quality media experiences for all our members and audiences
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of OPB

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with databases
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related field

 

Additional Information

  • This position reports to the Lead Digital Platform Developer and is benefits eligible
  • The probable hiring range for this exempt position is between $57,000 and $67,000 annually, depending on qualifications
  • For the safety of our employees, the contractors/vendors we work with, and the public we serve, OPB has a mandatory COVID vaccination policy and all employees are required to show proof of vaccination
