General Summary 

Responsible for leading, developing, and managing all aspects of data and analytics for Connecticut Public including data capture, report design, oversight and insightful implementation approaches that benefit business initiatives. Partners with and interacts with all departments and levels of the organization to provide useful data and insights as needed, as well as effectively communicate findings to gain wisdom from data that will influence strategic business decisions and priorities at the senior level.

Essential Functions

  • Develops methods and strategies for measuring audience, programming and digital products–from tying together our audiences across channels to understanding true viewership and engagement; to linking that engagement back to brand and revenue metrics; to developing a framework to help prioritize, refine, and launch new programming; to packaging our audiences to help us position them for our consumer, commercial and community partners.
  • Develops and executes traditional and digital measurement strategies that enable internal teams to make data-informed recommendations about current and future programs.
  • Defines analytical scope and approach, including establishing business-critical KPIs across the organization.
  • Develops multiple tools and platforms needed for performance and audience metrics in a uniform, automated approach.
  • Develops new business, audience development and content production ideas through data analysis and collaboration with internal teams
  • Develops ideas and hypotheses for optimizations and testing opportunities across all digital products to be executed and tracked in collaboration with Digital Services Bureau product team.
  • Continually tracks and analyzes emerging media technologies to determine areas of innovation and opportunity and communicates findings and recommends potential actions to relevant departments and senior leadership.
  • Leverages data-driven insights to identify circumstances for improved audience and member experience, content and product innovation, and business development for our underwriting and commercial partners.
  • Partners with the Senior Director  / Data and DSB as well as the Director / Digital Products and Strategic Integration, on strategic planning and forecasting to drive operational and organizational growth from a data perspective.

Responsibilities

  • Drives hypotheses and analysis to yield actionable insights and creative ideas.
  • Ensures focus on the motivations and needs of our audience to help create compelling experiences that break through audience noise and are meaningful.
  • Proactively reviews and analyzes Connecticut Public programs and services for areas of expansion and improvement.
  • Leverages knowledge of the media landscape and evolving listening/viewing behaviors across the news and entertainment ecosystem to drive thought leadership, business intelligence, and data strategy.
  • Delivers insightful and concise communications to all levels of the organization, managing expectations of key business stakeholders and understanding the key elements that make our content appealing and essential, and our marketing consistent and effective.
  • Makes recommendations on which emerging digital platforms to pursue.
  • Collaborates with thought partners for planning, analysis and development of insights for organization-wide growth initiatives including emerging technology.
  • Creates a cadence of close collaboration with the Digital Services Bureau product team to bring insights and ideas for consistent optimization and testing.
  • Creates a cross-functional, collaborative atmosphere, working throughout the organization to remove barriers to growth.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of: 

  • Digital media and public media best practices.
  • Digital analytics tools (Google Analytics, Search Console, etc.), audience insights, database structures and concepts.
  • Digital advertising concepts and terminology.
  • Emerging digital platforms and trends.
  • Marketing channels (web, email, social, organic, paid, etc.), audience segmentation, insights and strategy along with an intuitive understanding of creative, content and messaging and how to bring all these elements together for a successful campaign.
  • Ever-changing digital landscape.
  • Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Data visualization tools.

Work Environment
Job functions are typically performed under conditions similar to those found in general office or administrative work.  This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Duties are routinely performed Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.; however, evening and weekend support will be necessary.   This position is mainly remote, although some on-site requirements are necessary.

Physical Demands

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for prolonged periods, have close visual acuity, stand, and talk, lift objects of less than twenty (20) pounds, and hear. Manipulative skills, which require hand-eye coordination, such as reading or typing, writing, and filing are also required.  Activities related to this position may also include frequent in-person interactions.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a Digital Media, Digital Marketing, Data Analytics or another relevant field AND six or more (6+) years of experience in digital marketing and/or data arena, including strong understanding of quantitative and qualitative measurement concepts and tools  AND/OR a satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
