WWOZ 90.FM/WWOZ.org seeks a seasoned, dynamic, hands-on professional to lead all content creation and distribution strategy across multiple platforms for one of the nation’s most vibrant public radio stations.

WWOZ is a music-based community radio station operating out of the French Quarter in New Orleans. The mission is to “be the worldwide voice, archive, and flag-bearer of New Orleans culture and musical heritage.”  The format includes jazz, blues, R&B and world music–proudly maintaining the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Station.

Listener-supported, volunteer-programmed, WWOZ has a professional staff of 20 and an annual operating budget of approximately $5 million.  Local audience reach is deep and extends worldwide with 50% of listener support coming from beyond the radio broadcast area.

Each year WWOZ broadcasts live over 30 acts from the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival which is distributed nationally.  Utilizing radio, online media, and mobile apps, WWOZ is the city’s go-to source for information about daily live music, Second Lines, local musical history, Mardi Gras Indian culture and much more.

Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Director of Content will be responsible for design, integrity and the direction of content of the station.  Staff management experience including proven expert leadership and coaching skills required.  Directly oversees programming, production, digital services, social media, WWOZ video, engineering and volunteer relations.  Expected to bring best practices, departmental and budget accountability and also data-driven decision making.

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years leading and managing personnel within a multi-million dollar annual operating budget.  Superior written, verbal and interpersonal skills; as well as computer-based analytical skills a must.  Ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, Board of Directors, audience, donors and funders.  Familiarity with public media or equivalent experience.  Deep sensitivity, commitment to and knowledge of the music and culture of New Orleans highly preferred.
