WMFE, a growing public media organization, is hiring a Director of Development and Marketing to lead and manage the station’s fundraising program.

The Director of Development and Marketing will be an integral member of the WMFE leadership team and will be responsible for implementing and managing a comprehensive donor program for individual donors and foundations. In this role, you will work with leadership and across the organization, directly with donors, and external vendors, utilizing an exceptional ability to organize, prioritize, and steward our donors. Your role serves at the cross section of communication, solicitation, stewardship, and events, primarily working to enhance the donor experience and inspire their support. It offers a unique opportunity to combine creativity with project and process management in a highly collaborative, donor-centric environment.

The Director of Development and Marketing’s responsibilities include managing the WMFE individual and sustainer programs, monthly solicitation letters, donor communication, on-air and year-round fundraising initiatives i.e., planned gifts, major giving, vehicle donation, event management, and grants. This position requires an individual who is self-motivated, analytical, resourceful, collaborative, and extremely detail oriented with a passion for donors and data.

WMFE is the primary source of NPR and local programming from Central Florida to the Atlantic coast, through two radio broadcast signals (WMFE/WMFV), social media, podcasts and the web. WMFE serves listeners throughout the three metro counties of Orlando, as well as the outer areas of Central Florida which include Daytona Beach, Deland, the Space Coast, and The Villages.   As we seek to recognize and reflect the increasing diversity among our audiences, we encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds and with diverse perspectives to consider employment opportunities at WMFE.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and execute a sound and comprehensive development plan to significantly grow contributed revenue from individuals and foundations through donations, major gifts and planned giving.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate annual and multi-year goals and strategies for the Development team and individual staff members designed to maximize financial support.  Create goals and metrics to be measured on a quarterly, annual, and multi-year basis.  Support team, hold team members accountable.
  • Maintain a portfolio of donors and prospects; work with gift officers to help them manage and move their portfolios to meaningful growth.
  • Actively manage the President’s weekly involvement in all fundraising activities; proactively and strategically utilize the President to open doors and help close gifts.
  • Foster a culture of philanthropy, fundraising accountability, and success throughout the organization; create a culture that celebrates wins and fundraising success; engage the CEO, senior leaders, and WMFE colleagues in donor discussions; enlist the involvement of members of WMFE’s staff, the President, the Board of Directors, and others as necessary to successfully implement the leadership giving plans. Designing and providing training for staff and volunteers as necessary.
  • Track, analyze and measure fundraising data; extrapolate growth and trends that would drive future growth.
  • Develop and update policies and procedures and create new policies and procedures that will best serve WMFE; ensures WMFE’s Gift Acceptance Policy and any other pertinent policies, are followed, with a special emphasis on ethical standards for soliciting and reporting.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to seamlessly manage relationships that not only touch the development team but also the membership and corporate sponsorship teams.
  • Build strong relationships with board members, volunteers and donors that will further advance WMFE’s mission and fundraising goals; represents WMFE to the national public radio development community. Maintain strong working relationships with relevant national organizations.
  • Prepare oral and written communications for the President, Board and volunteers as needed; prepare oral and written reports for the Board.
  • Represent WMFE in the community through presentations, community involvement and events when needed; representation could include speaking, attending, or networking with the purpose to further build WMFE’s base of support.
  • Serve as a staff representative to the WMFE board. Actively support the work of the board as needed.
  • Stay abreast of professional development opportunities for staff and self; find ways to implement best practices throughout the organization and become engaged in public media industry groups.
  • Actively manage development and marketing team and external consultants, when applicable

What we are looking for in a candidate:

 

  • Relevant professional experience, with a strong background in donor relations.
  • Experience and proficiency in fundraising and donor management.
  • A team player who displays individual accountability.
  • Knowledgeable of various computer hardware and software including word processing, database, and spreadsheet functions; MS Office knowledge is required, Raiser’s Edge NXT, Luminate Online, and Constant Contact.
  • Ability to work well on multiple, simultaneous projects under pressure with differing deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels, donors, volunteers, as well as the public.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience: A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or nonprofit management is required. The ideal candidate will have five to seven years of experience in fundraising, philanthropy, or marketing. Priority is given to those with public media experience.
