Southern Illinois University (SIU) Carbondale invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Director for Development (Director of Development, WSIU) for the WSIU Broadcasting Service. WSIU has undergone a recent expansion of its service area and now reaches two-thirds of the counties in the State of Illinois, along with portions of the five border states. WSIU provides public media service via television, radio, and digital platforms to approximately five million people throughout western, central, and southern Illinois. This position is responsible for establishing an annual overall plan for development in consultation with the WSIU Executive Director, securing private support for WSIU throughout its coverage area and the five border states. The position will also oversee the management of WSIU’s annual fund program. This is a highly visible, public position that must exercise discretion and sound independent judgment with respect to the University or to the proprietary environment of business or institutional partners. This position may work out of either the Carbondale or Springfield area.
Minimum Qualifications: Baccalaureate degree in relevant discipline. Two (2) years successful professional experience in fund raising or related non-profit organization work. A master’s degree in nonprofit management or closely related field may be substituted for the two years of experience. Demonstrated ability to communicate in written or oral forms & evidence of appropriate interpersonal skills necessary to be a successful fundraiser. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated knowledge of public broadcasting; FCC & other regulations governing public broadcasting fundraising activities. Proven media, philanthropic business development and/or grant writing experience preferred.
Compensation: The salary for this position is commensurate with qualifications and experience; there is an excellent fringe benefits package.
