The Opportunity
KCUR is seeking an individual with demonstrated experience in communicating with and raising funds from foundation, corporate, and individual donors to support its mission, programming and operations. KCUR wants someone with a passion for communicating about and raising funds to support public media.
KCUR 89.3 is the NPR affiliate in Kansas City and is an editorially independent community service of the University of Missouri-Kansas City. KCUR is the lead partner for Harvest Public Media, reporting on agricultural news, and the Kansas News Service, covering health, politics, and education. Recently, KCUR was named the lead station for NPR’s new Midwestern Hub which will provide nationwide coverage from Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa. This summer KCUR launched a full-time classical radio service, Classical KC 91.9.
Basic Function and Responsibility
The Director will be responsible for working with KCUR’s development director and the UMKC Foundation to develop and expand foundation, government and corporate giving for KCUR. The Director will manage a portfolio of prospects, nurturing current relationships and cultivating new ones. The Director also will oversee institutional and external communications for KCUR. The Director will assist with special events.
Successful candidates must have a documented record of successful solicitation and stewardship of foundation and corporate donors; experience in cultivating individual donors; excellent research and communication skills; strong knowledge of the programming and priorities of KCUR; and the ability to develop and maintain relationships with a wide variety of people.
