Summary
Position: This full-time position is responsible for providing area residents with a daily stream of content on topics of interest and concern to the High Plains region through a weave of broadcast, digital and social media. The position’s overall objectives are to create a strong regional “sense of place” from multiple perspectives, develop understanding and appreciation of the region and help residents make informed choices for its future.

Location: Garden City, KS (preferred) or Amarillo, TX
Production and Content Responsibilities
- Oversee, develop, produce and curate content with a network of volunteer contributors.
- For the curation, responsible for tracking over 100 informed web sources for relevant content. The Director of Regional Content will use these sources to write, voice and produce daily short broadcast newscasts, website posts and social media distribution.
- For the contributor network, recruit, train and supervise volunteers with regional knowledge, experience and distinctive perspectives to provide additional short broadcast features, web posts and social media sharing.
- Manage Regional Content Calendar for use in programming department.
- Manage and refine the regional content categories covered through curation and contributors. These categories currently include: the economy and enterprises, especially agriculture and energy; the environment, including climate and landscape; government and politics across state borders; community health, education and welfare; stories of people and communities; and regional history, culture and arts.
- Coordinates and work on state-wide public radio projects with other public radio station personnel.
Work Environment
This position involves all the demands and opportunities that come with working for a community-based public media organization with a small, close-working staff and a widely dispersed audience and community of contributors. It requires focus on those being served, good teamwork with staff and volunteers, flexible thinking and innovative approaches. About High Plains Public Radio
HPPR serves residents of the High Plains region across the states of Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado through a network of 20 broadcast stations, digital streaming, a responsive website and social media. It operates studios in Garden City, KS and Amarillo, TX along with distributed production by individuals in communities across the region and beyond.
HPPR is an independent non-profit corporation founded in 1975 and currently receives 76% of its funding from individual contributions, business underwriting and foundation support.
