Kent State University seeks applications for the position of General Manager of WKSU reporting to the Senior Vice President, Strategic Communications and External Affairs. The General Manager will be an experienced and collaborative leader who embodies a consensus-building style and embraces the role of national public radio as part of a distinctive national research university.
Kent State University, led by President Beverly Warren, this year completed a university-wide strategic visioning process that has culminated in a bold Strategic Roadmap for a Distinctive Kent State. The WKSU GM will lead our award-winning NPR station, whose programs and services will make major contributions to advancing the work on these priorities.
The Vision Statement defines Kent State’s future – To be a community of change agents whose collective commitment to learning sparks epic thinking, meaningful voice and invaluable outcomes to better our society.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in journalism, communications, business administration, non-profit management or other related field. Ten years of related experience with increasing levels of responsibility.

WKSU is proud to be celebrating our 65th anniversary. The station has a total staff of approximately 30 full- and part-time staff, a weekly audience of 155,000, and community support of nearly $3 million per year.
WKSU is an affiliate of National Public Radio serving 22 counties in Northeast Ohio, including the major metropolitan areas of Akron, Cleveland and Canton. WKSU’s main broadcast facilities are in Kent with bureaus in Akron, Cleveland and Canton. The format of the station’s main broadcast channel is news & talk with classical music in the evening and a mix of news, cultural and entertainment programming on the weekends.
