Lane Community College seeks a dynamic, innovative and participatory leader for the next General Manager of KLCC.

KLCC 89.7 FM is a public radio station licensed to Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon. With 81,000 watts of power, KLCC 89.7 FM is the most powerful public radio signal in Oregon. The station reports to the Vice President of College Services.

Position Purpose

To provide overall management, leadership, planning and to supervise fundraising, content development and delivery, and technical system development.

Core Competencies

  • Leadership and Administration: Providing leadership to achieve KLCC’s mission and strategic goals; raising the profile of the station across the region and the industry.
  • Development and Growth: Expanding listenership, membership and sustaining membership; cultivating major donors, community and local foundation support.
  • Human Resources: Overseeing employee recruitment, selection, performance management and individual and team development in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Financial Management: Developing and administering station budgets and financial performance.
  • Programming: Leading programming staff to ensure on air content is compelling, differentiated and engaging for our target audience.
  • Technology and Media: Managing acquisition, implementation, maintenance and replacement of station technologies, to include new media.

Required Experience

A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience related to public or commercial media, administration, leadership, planning, and supervision. Experience with budget and contract development/management/administration, resource development, and working with Federal Communications Commission and Corporation for Public Broadcasting rules and regulations.

Preferred Experience

  • Significant experience in major donor cultivation and fundraising campaigns.
  • Public radio experience.
  • A demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity is expected.
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered for meeting minimum qualifications. Applicants are responsible to show how their personal training and experience would qualify them for the position.

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, business or related field

Preferred Education

Master’s Degree in a related field

KLCC is a listener-supported, non-commercial, radio station. Two thirds of our funding comes from the listening audience and business community. The remaining funds are provided by Lane Community College, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), and an annual microbrew festival.

A variety of volunteer-programmed and hosted music programs fill the remaining hours, including Jazz, Blues, Folk, World, Celtic, Electronic, R&B, Latino, and Americana.

Eugene is located in the Willamette valley along the Interstate 5 corridor with easy access to the ocean, hiking, camping, winter skiing, and other outdoor activities. It is a college town; home to Lane Community College and the University of Oregon.   The Eugene-Springfield Nielsen market is the second largest in Oregon, Market # 151.
