Wisconsin Public Radio is hiring two hosts.

One will be our Morning Edition Host and will work with the Morning Edition producer to deliver the most important statewide news of the day in newscasts that air on both of our statewide networks. WPR’s broadcast networks serve more than 400,000 listeners across the state each month. Our hosts also produce two-ways and accompanying digital components with reporters, authors, artists, and newsmakers. The regular work hours for this position are weekdays 4 am to 12 pm. This position reports to the News Director.

The other will be our Midday Host and News Sourcing Producer. This person writes and produces hourly newscasts providing timely information for WPR’s radio audiences that run from 10 am to 2 pm. The position also takes primary responsibility for managing the news department’s source tracking data and assists with researching sources to help diversify the range of voices that appear on air and online. This position reports the News Director.

DEGREE AND AREA OF SPECIALIZATION
No degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, or related field preferred.
– For Morning Edition Host: Three years of full-time related work experience, six years if no degree. For Midday Host: One year of full-time related work experience, four years if no degree.
– For Morning Edition Host: Experience hosting and producing live broadcast news content. For Midday Host: Experience voicing live or recorded broadcast news content.
– Experience operating radio studio equipment and software.
– Excellent broadcast writing skills.
– Proven ability to work in both independent and collaborative settings.
– Demonstrated organizational skills, ability to work within tight deadlines and manage competing responsibilities.
– Demonstrated knowledge of journalism ethics, newsgathering and reporting techniques.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Experience working in public media.
– Experience writing and producing for online platforms.
– Knowledge and understanding of Wisconsin news, culture, issues, and personalities.
– For Morning Edition Host: Experience as local host of Morning Edition or All Things Considered.
– For Midday Host: Experience using simple databases and data visualization tools.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Contributes to preparation and editorial decision-making, hosts programs, and participates in promotional appearances in support of high quality programming production.

70% Delivers on-air content for various platforms that may include facilitating on-air conversations and/or providing informational content for audiences
10% Develops and contributes content that may include interviewing sources, programming music, writing stories and completing other necessary production tasks as assigned to create content
5% Maintains familiarity with studio equipment and applicable technology for production and/or broadcast
5% May represent the unit at public events, participating in promotional, community, and fundraising events as necessary
5% Serves as a resource for questions and projects
5% Tests and operates studio broadcasting technology and equipment
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Expected hiring range for the Morning Edition Host position is in the mid – to upper-60s. Expected hiring range for the Midday Host and News Sourcing Producer is in the mid- to upper-50s. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
