IT & Network Engineer

We are seeking a dependable and technically skilled IT & Network Engineer to support and maintain the organization’s IT infrastructure. This is a hands-on, one-person IT department role (with consultants/vendors as needed) who is responsible for network and system administration, cybersecurity, associated vendors/partners, and management of vendor supported help desk. The ideal candidate will have broad technical expertise, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to operate independently while supporting a secure and reliable IT environment.

Accountabilities:

Hands-On Support & Maintenance:

  • This hands-on role must ensure continuous uptime for a 24/7 broadcast environment and may require occasional after-hours, night, or weekend work to troubleshoot and maintain systems operations.
  • Properly log and address support requests via the Support Desk tracking system.
  • Facilitate employee IT onboarding, offboarding, and training.
  • Respond to broadcast and on-air emergencies promptly, documenting and resolving incidents and service requests.
  • Manage documentation, technical standards, and processes.
  • Familiarity with the Windows OS, including Windows 10, 11, & Server architecture.
  • Work closely with our digital team to assist with DNS, IP, and similar changes.
  • Collaborate on equipment management and lifecycle processes, ensuring up-to-date documentation.
  • Manage WABE’s helpdesk and cybersecurity service providers.
  • Maintain equipment for optimal functionality and promptly troubleshoot issues across all platforms.

Network Architecture and Design:

  • Develop and maintain the company’s network architecture to support media production needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement network solutions for live broadcasts, content distribution, and data transfer.
  • Experience with Microsoft Cloud, including Entra ID & O365
  • Deploy and maintain Azure Virtual Machines and Azure Application and Networking Services.

Network Administration:

  • Manage & maintain of L2/L3 network devices, including switches, routers, & firewalls.
  • Perform routine maintenance and operational support for networks and servers.
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize for minimal downtime.
  • Analyze system, server, network, and application usage and plan for capacity growth.

System Administration:

  • Understanding and experience with virtualization, especially Hyper-V.
  • Manage active directory, Microsoft 365, VoIP solution and cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS.

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement and maintain robust security protocols to safeguard data and media assets.
  • Stay updated on industry security standards and compliance requirements.
  • Support the company’s cybersecurity program, cyber incidents and investigations.
  • Use industry standard tools, such as eDiscovery, to investigate cyber security incidents.
  • Experience with cybersecurity tools such as MimeCast and KnowBe4.
  • Experience with Fortigate firewalls and VPN.

Server and Infrastructure Management:

  • Oversee server administration, provisioning, maintenance, and performance tuning. Install, upgrade, maintain, and modify server software.
  • Manage virtualization environments and storage solutions.
  • Implement and manage video servers, digital assets management & storage systems etc. needed to ensure connectivity, distribution and streaming of multimedia.
  • Manage virtualization environments and storage solutions.

Backup and Disaster Recovery:

  • Develop and execute backup and disaster recovery plans.

Collaboration and Integration:

  • Collaborate with multimedia teams to integrate IT and network solutions into the production workflow.

Vendor Management:

  • Evaluate and manage relationships with technology vendors.

Documentation and Training:

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of network configurations, systems, and procedures.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field (advanced degrees and industry certifications are a plus).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in an IT department (7 years in lieu of bachelor’s degree.)
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols, security practices, and performance optimization.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Willingness to learn, self-educate and implement current and new technologies, processes and methods
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Adaptability to changing technologies and business requirements.
  • Experience in a broadcast or streaming environment a plus.
  • Help with vendor management and new technology evaluations.
