Position Summary

Our next Major Gifts Manager will join us in building on this tradition, expanding WPT’s individual giving program by strengthening relationships with leadership donors, directly cultivating and soliciting major and planned gifts, and providing excellent stewardship to donors. The Major Gifts Officer will engage prospects and donors across the state to meet Wisconsin Public Television’s short and long-term programming and capital project fundraising goals.  Will develop long term relationships with donors to negotiate and close major gifts, planned giving arrangements and other types of gifts to the Friends of Wisconsin Public Television.  Key contacts include Director of Development, Sr. Manager of Philanthropy, Planned Giving and Major Gifts Managers, Director of Television, staff, and partner organizations to develop and implement strategies for major gift donors.   Reports to the Sr. Manager of Philanthropy.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Act as primary relationship manager for donors and prospects of $1,000 or more/year to reach or exceed annual funding goals. Manage a donor portfolio and aggressive donor engagement schedule, traveling as necessary to various parts of the state to visit major and planned giving donors and prospects.  Work independently and collaboratively with donors and prospects through all stages of development (identify, research, qualify, cultivate, solicit, steward).  Solicit and close major and planned gifts.
  2. Work effectively and strategically with development, station, and volunteer leadership to enable meaningful donor interactions. Plan and implement events and activities (volunteer experiences, tours, screenings, receptions, etc.) for individual major gift and planned gift donors with Special Events Manager and staff.
  3. Create, integrate, and implement individual and institutional (family foundations, etc.) major gift donor solicitation strategies and plans with the Sr. Manager of Philanthropy, Director of Development and other station leadership.
  4. Cultivate and expand current giving by planned gift donors by integrating planned gift objectives into major individual donor requests in collaboration with Planned Giving Officers.
  5. Distribute major gift materials, including project proposals, updates and stewardship materials to support retention and gift increases.
  6. Collaborate with team members and partner organizations to share opportunities for leveraging projects to open doors to new prospective donors. Plan and manage donor stewardship strategies.
  7. Coach and coordinate board members, station personnel, and community volunteers in effective techniques to build their fundraising skills and success. Partner with board members in making solicitations.
  8. Document and monitor own work activity and report regularly on activity to achieve major gift revenue goals.
  9. Report donor activities and relevant interactions using database including cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospective and current individual major donors. Assist with review and verification of major gift donor recognition lists.
  10. Participate in professional development and training and participate in regular staff and organization-wide meetings.
  11. Work throughout the organization to enhance a culture of philanthropy and communicate the impact of giving.
  12. Effectively engage diverse perspectives and experiences in all workplace interactions and demonstrate respect for others in all workplace relationships.

Essential Job Functions

  • Ability to travel statewide (25%) and participate in events frequently, including evenings and weekends.
  • Interpersonal skills to ask for and achieve major monetary gifts for WPT.
  • Consistently and favorably represent WPT and the Development Department at events and functions.
  • Computer literacy to use software and the internet as routine elements of the job.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong sense of fundraising ethics, including confidentiality.

 

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; this must include at least two years’ experience in major gift development and fundraising.
  • Demonstrated experience in cultivating relationships that have resulted in major gifts and record of success in achieving Development goals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a professional demeanor commensurate with our donors’ investment in our mission and values.
  • Must be committed to the mission and values of Wisconsin Public Television and to excellent internal and external customer service.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently, with a goal-oriented work ethic.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Computer literacy in common Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, file sharing) and familiarity with relationship management databases.
  • Ability to travel statewide (25%) and participate in events frequently, including evenings and weekends.

 

Desirable But Not Required Qualifications

  • Experience or knowledge of public broadcasting, particularly public broadcasting fundraising.

 

Salary

We expect to pay in the $55,000 range with actual pay dependent on experience and skills.   UW-Extension offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, life insurance, pension plan, flexible spending accounts, employer paid training and development, generous paid vacation and sick leave.
