The Opportunity 

Classical KC and ClassicalKC.org are new, 24/7 public radio classical music broadcast and digital service designed to reflect and serve Kansas City’s vibrant and energetic arts scene. Classical KC is taking applications for a Major Gift Officer. The station is a startup project of KCUR 89.3, one of the nation’s most innovative and fastest-growing NPR stations. Classical KC has a mission to engage, educate, inspire and entertain. The station features performances by local, national and international artists. Classical KC seeks to create innovative and informative programs fueled by the region’s intellectual and cultural diversity and its abundant arts organizations. We champion this music in all its forms. We believe that delivering classical music can connect with and inspire audiences in an emotional and meaningful way.  We believe that Classical KC can help to develop diverse classical music audiences in Kansas City.

Characteristic Duties

The Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for working with KCUR’s Director of Philanthropic Giving, Director of Classical KC, and the UMKC Foundation to develop and expand major giving for Classical KC. The Major Gifts Officer will manage a portfolio of prospects and donors, nurturing current relationships and cultivating new ones, develop strategies to move current donors into the major giving category, and assist with special events. Reporting to the Director of Philanthropic Giving, duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan and implement annual program of identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors, working in concert with KCUR/ Classical KC development team
  • Work with Classical KC senior staff, UMKC Foundation, and Classical KC’s advisory and artistic councils to expand existing major giving strategies, as well as create and implement new ones as needed
  • Work with KCUR’s Director of Institutional Giving and membership team to plan and implement the annual external communications plan for Classical KC across multiple audiences and constituents

Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired are necessary.

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of fundraising working with volunteer leadership to raise funds
  • Two years of experience in major gift fundraising for an arts organization
  • Proficiency in fundraising software.
  • Experience and familiarity with Kansas City’s philanthropic landscape are a plus.

Salary: Salary will be commensurate with experience and education.  This position is full time, benefit eligible.
