Overall Job Objectives

Manage WETA’s Volunteer Services Programs through effective organization to maintain an exemplary program that serves WETA, volunteers and the broader community. Reports to Executive Director, On-Air Fundraising and coordinates WETA’s volunteers at events and service opportunities.

 

Principal Responsibilities

·         Manage and oversee WETA’s Volunteer Services Programs.

o   Screen, select, and place volunteers in assignments that match their interests and qualifications with organizational needs.

o   Collaborate with WETA staff across the organization to identify, define and create new placement opportunities to expand the program’s impact.

o   Engage existing volunteers, convert new volunteers to long-standing, active volunteers and recruit first-time volunteers.

o   Serve as a liaison between staff and volunteers. Work with WETA staff to identify organizational needs that volunteers could assist with.

o   Assist in determining volunteer task parameters and design job description for each in-office volunteer assignment. Establish procedures to evaluate the effectiveness of individual in-office volunteer’s performance.

o   Develop and implement training program for volunteers. Maintain volunteer database. Create and maintain written documentation needed by program (i.e. volunteer application, training manuals, volunteer web page, etc.).

·         Manage volunteers at events and assist in event management.

·         Stay abreast of trends and legislation relating to volunteerism.

·         Develop and implement volunteer engagement activities (i.e. Volunteer Appreciation Celebration).

·         Provide ongoing evaluation of Volunteer Services Program to determine effectiveness and impact of the program. Collaborate with Executive Director to make changes when advisable.

·          Perform other duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications

·         Knowledge of volunteerism and volunteer management practices.

·         Knowledge of public broadcasting on-air fundraising preferred.

·         Proven ability and interest in establishing and maintaining relationships with local community leaders and organizations.

·         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to interact with a wide variety of people using diplomacy, tact and discretion.

·         Excellent organizational, project planning and time management skills with careful attention to detail.

·         Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment.

·         Demonstrated ability to successfully perform in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.

·         Ability to work irregular shifts, long hours and weekends prior to and throughout the TV and FM pledge drives and other events.

·         Demonstrated results in solving problems with creativity.

·         Demonstrated ability to interact comfortably with diverse individuals, in-person and by phone, and to achieve results through persuasive and strong relationship management.

·         Strong customer service approach to working with both staff and volunteers.

·         Interest in public broadcasting and the non-profit sector.

 

Education and Experience

·         College degree in marketing, education, business administration or a related field

·         Minimum 3-5 years of experience in promotions, public relations, marketing or community engagement.

·         Experience leading volunteers.

·         Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
