MANAGING DIRECTOR OF MAJOR GIFTS AND PLANNED GIVING
Twin Cities PBS (TPT), one of America’s premier public media organizations is seeking a Managing Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving. The individual is a key member of the Development Team during a time of rapid change and opportunity for public media. S/he/they will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies designed to engage and steward individual major donors and prospects in ways that encourage their substantial philanthropic investment in Twin Cities PBS.
The Managing Director provides strategic, well-formulated, and proactive fundraising approaches and is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, stewarding and communicating with individuals for major and planned gifts to Twin Cities PBS. In addition, this individual will manage a portfolio of high net-worth individuals to raise support for the organization’s ambitious strategic plan initiatives, capital needs, community-based work, and other important programmatic activities. The Managing Director will report to the Chief Executive Officer.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage a portfolio of new and existing major donor programs, and communicate TPT’s vision, priorities, and goals in a compelling way to grow the portfolio and expand funding.
- Identify, cultivate, and build a pipeline of new major donors and planned giving prospects, and lead stewardship efforts, meeting with donors and prospects on an ongoing basis.
- Create tailored pitches based on deep understanding of our mid and major donors, including events and presentations and materials focused on TPT programming, strategic vision and impact.
- In collaboration with the CEO, develop and grow major individual giving programs that deepen and expand the existing donor base at all levels of giving, with special focus on growing high-end annual fund and individual major and estate gifts.
- Oversee planned giving solicitations and agreements working with legal and planned giving experts
- Lead, mentor, coach and evaluate a talented development team, and ensures the team maintains best practices and an understanding of the fundraising landscape including local, national, and international marketplace trends.
- Engage in strategic planning and goal setting and work with your colleagues on coordinated donor efforts for deeper donor engagement, while analyzing data and progress to continuously improve our major gift strategy and meet robust revenue goals.
- In close collaboration with the Communications and Marketing Team, create a regular cadence of donor and prospect engagement and communications that align with and leverage other external communications and engagement with our corporate and foundation donor audiences.
- Contribute to a culture of trust, teamwork, transparency, inclusion and efficiency.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum ten (10) years of fundraising leadership experience with at least five (5) years of successful experience directly and regularly soliciting major and planned gifts.
- Major Gifts experience within a non-profit organization, educational institution or other environment of similar complexity.
- Strategic planning experience and skill, with ability to set a vision for the long term, translate the vision into clear goals and build a plan to achieve identified goals.
- Experience in preparing and conducting solicitations via correspondence, virtually and in-person, including making qualification calls for major donors.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills; a high level of comfort with direct donor interaction, including discussions of personal and family finances.
- Knowledge of acceptable gifts policies and ethical fund development practices, as well as Minnesota law governing fund development and public charities.
- Ability to motivate and interact effectively with Board, volunteers, donors, and program staff at all levels.
- Experience preparing and reviewing written donor proposals, endowment agreements, and gift illustrations, and development of materials and strategies that support planned gift fundraising.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required by the work, for donor meetings and key convenings and other events.
- History of successful capital campaign fundraising.
- Exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
- Knowledge of Minneapolis/St. Paul philanthropic community.
- Proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite and fundraising CRMs (Salesforce, Raisers Edge), and use of data and analytics to inform fundraising campaigns.
- Passion for the mission of Twin Cities PBS.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Baccalaureate degree, CFRE and/or equivalent work experience, Juris Doctor a plus.
- Public speaking and meeting facilitation experience.
- Ability to grow and maintain strong authentic relationships with donors.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Some travel required for the job including to donor meetings, key convenings and other events.
- A valid driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation.
