Description
WUWF Public Media is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Managing Editor (ME) of News (Assistant Director – 125630). This position, which will report to the Director of Content & Operations, will be responsible for editing, assigning, scheduling and managing WUWF news efforts on air, and online, in conjunction with WUWF news staff, WUWF Digital Content producers and CREO (Center for Research & Economic Opportunity) writers & producers.
Additionally, the ME will be expected to lead by example, creating stories and content for WUWF FM & WUWF.org on a regular basis. Also, this position, while not being assigned a daily air shift, will be expected to fill in for the “Morning Edition” & All Things Considered” host when regular hosts are on vacation, or cannot work due to illness, the need to cover a story, etc. This portion of the job requires knowledge and awareness of Public Radio programming and values, working knowledge of digital production techniques and software, news production skills, good on-air skills and the ability to complete assignments; reliability, clarity in speaking and writing, team player mentality. Minimum qualifications:
Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Working knowledge of public radio best practices for hosting & reporting
- Knowledge of applicable FCC rules pertaining to relevant materials aired
- Ability to write, edit, produce & report stories in the “public radio” style
- Excellent organizational and supervisory skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks & people, while setting & meeting deadlines
- Clear and engaging speaking voice
- Familiarity with online content posting, writing and visual content needs
- Ability to work with others as a team
- Ability to pay attention to detail, while not losing sight of “the big picture” all around.
