The Opportunity
KCUR 89.3 is searching for an Investigative Reporter as part of our collaboration with NPR’s Midwest Newsroom. The successful applicant will work with the Midwest Newsroom’s regional investigative team, partner station staff and NPR to create journalism with impact, increase enterprise and investigative projects, and strengthen coverage of the Midwest for local, regional, and national audiences. We aim to both reflect and serve the broad range of people who call our communities home.
At this moment when accurate and deeply reported news has never been more important, NPR and member stations in Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa are launching a regional “news hub” built on collaboration and focused on investigations. This Midwest Newsroom team will work on projects as a unit as well as partner with journalists at member stations to produce stories relevant to listeners throughout the region and to NPR’s national audience.
In addition to the Investigative Reporter, the team includes a Data Journalist, Investigative Editor, Senior Content Editor and Managing Editor. The Investigative Reporter will report to the Investigative Editor.
The preferred location for this position is at KCUR in Kansas City, Missouri. However, the successful candidate may choose to work from any of the Midwest Newsroom’s four partner stations.
This is a two-year, grant-funded position. The Midwest Newsroom partners intend to raise funds to sustain the position beyond that period.
