We’re looking for a host with a warm and inviting on-air presence who engages loyal listeners and attracts curious new ones. Our morning host will have a strong classical music background as well as an appreciation for other forms of music and popular culture. The host who CapRadio listeners will wake up with each morning will also have strong writing skills, experience as an interviewer and facility in audio production.

Our new host and producer joins a highly motivated team of creative people who are re-defining what it means to be a classical music service in the 21st Century, working across the terrestrial, digital, and live event spaces to engage with audiences on whatever platform they use.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Hosts daily classical music air shift (Monday-Friday 6-10 a.m.)
  • Conducts periodic artist interviews, both live on the air and recorded for future use
  • Contributes to CapRadio’s digital platforms (writes web articles, blog posts, social media updates)
  • Writes and produces creative and compelling promos and other audio content for on-air use
  • Participates in On-Air Fund Drives
  • Represents CapRadio in the community at concerts and other events
  • Records voice tracks for dayparts other than live weekday shift (i.e. weekends)
  • Works with Managing Editor on arts-related feature stories that can be run on multiple platforms
  • Brings music expertise to appearances on Insight, Morning Edition and other CapRadio news programs
  • Participates in CapRadio-produced events and live broadcasts
  • Contributes ideas and assists with programming initiatives to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in Classical Music.
  • Assists Music Director in music scheduling and maintenance of the Music Master database

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Excellent on-air skills and engaging personality
  • A passion for classical music and the ability to connect with both new and traditional listeners
  • Familiarity with composers, performers, repertoire, historical periods, styles, etc.
  • Facility in pronouncing foreign language names and titles
  • Good writer
  • Proficiency with Audio Editing (Adobe Audition preferred)
  • Strong team player, intra and inter departmentally (Digital, Marketing, Events, News)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in music or equivalent
  • Three years or more previous on-air experience
  • Familiarity with music scheduling software (Music Master preferred)
  • Experience with live event broadcasts

Remote work is temporarily available under shelter in place orders. Must be able to commute to our Sacramento, CA office once restrictions have been lifted.

Salary

The annual salary range for this position is $58,240-$65000 a year depending on experience. CapRadio also offers:
