Are you a detail-oriented professional with a knack for software and a passion for Public Media? Join WSKG’s team as a Multimedia Traffic Coordinator. In this role, you will oversee the scheduling of television programs, underwriters, and other content, ensuring a smooth and efficient broadcast flow. You will work closely with various departments, including programming, sales, and operations, to ensure that all content is aired as scheduled and adheres to station standards. You’ll be playing a vital role ensuring the efficient flow and distribution of multimedia content. Help make Public Media in New York State’s Southern Tier and Finger Lakes region sound and look flawless.

Primary Function:    

Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Traffic department, including creating all broadcast logs for all TV channels, ensuring proper placement of all underwriters and all on-air elements, while maintaining standard operating procedures and meeting all established deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Creates all daily programming logs, record logs, and automation playlists using industry-standard ProTrack broadcast scheduling software or other software as necessary for all broadcast channels to maintain compliance with FCC rules and regulations. Prepares daily program logs by obtaining source information, start time, and program duration. Reads, correctly interprets, and applies program format rundowns from content suppliers.
  • Perform daily Prolink session to obtain accurate metadata information from PBS, making all necessary changes as advised by Myers Information Services.
  • Accurately enters and schedules underwriters and paid spots following standard operating procedures using sales patterns and flights based on sales contracts in the broadcast logs. Works closely with the Underwriting team to maintain an accurate underwriter sales grid.
  • Track all underwriter sales contracts and communicate with sales staff when contracts end or conflicts occur within the broadcast logs.
  • Accurately enters and schedules all promotions and development spots following network brand strategies, programming initiatives, and marketing/promotional requirements. Establishes media codes,  processes dub orders, communicates necessary information to team members, and properly schedules for broadcast.
  • As necessary, perform ingesting, importation, trimming, downloading, and transcoding media duties.
  • Upon completion of broadcast logs, perform the final quality control (QC) check and send logs to Master Control (Centralcast). Using Centralcast software, Mediator, verify that logs have reached Centralcast and are accurate. Work with Centralcast to troubleshoot any problems that may arise.
  • Develops and maintains a thorough knowledge of mission-essential software relevant to the program & traffic department.
  • Assists with various station fundraising events, including pledge drives, studio productions, and post-production projects as scheduled.
  • Assumes on-air radio board shift responsibilities as assigned.
  • Act as backup to the Programming & Traffic Assistant with digital scheduling traffic tools such as PBS Avail/Interstitial Manager (AIM) and Adswhizz for radio streams.
  • Act as backup to the Programming & Traffic Assistant to create the weekly TV promotions rundown, facilitate content delivery to Centralcast, and verify all spots have reached a quality-controlled state.
  • Assist the Director of Programming & Traffic as necessary.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Minimum Requirements):

  • Associate’s degree in Communications, Engineering, or other related field, or certification from an accredited technical school.
  • Thorough knowledge of television broadcast equipment and computers.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and emergency situations.
  • Ability to work a flexible and varied schedule, including nights and weekends, as necessary.
  • Accurate typing/keyboard skills.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with a variety of software.
  • Organizational ability and discipline with attention to detail and numbers.  Ability to work under pressure and deadlines, adjust to evolving priorities, and react quickly to changes as needed.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  • The successful candidate must possess strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills are also required. The Multimedia Traffic Coordinator must collaborate across multiple groups, teams, and partners within and outside WSKG

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of work experience in television programming and traffic environments, including prior experience with Protrack and programming/traffic automation software.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or coursework in a Television, Communications, or Engineering field.
  • Passion for public broadcasting and mission-driven content.
  • 2-5 years of media experience, preferably in log and traffic operations.
  • Strong knowledge and passion for the media industry.
