Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is seeking a News Director.
About the Position:
Colorado Public Radio News, one of the largest public media newsrooms in the country, is looking for a News Director to join our senior News leadership team. You will direct an experienced, diverse staff focusing on our audio platforms while collaborating with the Managing Editor/Digital to ensure CPR News fulfills its public service journalism mission of delivering urgent news, in-depth enterprise and accountability journalism, and stories that just bring a smile to a listener’s face. As part of senior News leadership, you will serve as back-up to the Executive Editor when needed, help develop news and audience strategies and contribute to a challenging, equitable, inclusive work culture.
About You:
Our ideal candidate is an innovative, creative, collaborative, solutions-oriented newsroom manager with excellent news judgment and editing skills. You are a leader with the ability to see the big picture while juggling multiple priorities. You’re highly organized and able to remain calm under pressure.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Journalistic experience – 5 years minimum; some of which must be public radio or broadcast.
- 3+ years experience in a newsroom leadership role preferred.
- Knowledge of Colorado – people and places – and important issues that impact the state is ideal.
- Strong judgment and understanding of journalistic standards, practices and ethics required.
- Excellent management skills and experience; substantial supervisory roles in a daily news organization is required.
- Proven record of telling stories for diverse communities required.
- Meticulous organizational skills; experience managing multi-platform news is required.
Education Equivalency:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience or a combination of education and experience.

Hiring Range: $90,200 – $120,200
Structure Title: Director, News Delivery
Starting Pay: based on education and experience.
