Powered by the generous support of members, OPB seeks out a variety of voices in our communities and lifts up authentic stories of the people, places, events and issues of the region, providing context and a deeper understanding. The Opportunity
OPB is hiring a News Editor to support our skilled reporters in covering government and politics throughout Oregon and SW Washington. Our newsroom includes ~30 staff and works closely with other content teams to ensure the news reflects the importance in our region. We use a collaborative process between our editors and reporters in which editors coach journalists through new projects, build beats and stories in partnership and support their growth and development.
OPB’s government and politics team produces a mix of daily breaking news, mid-range enterprise reporting and deep-dive investigations that can take months to report and write, as well as the weekly podcast, OPB Politics Now. The editor of this team will receive ample support from other OPB editors and the vice president for news, but needs to be comfortable handling a range of story formats and styles and moving fluidly from the rigors of leading the team through the grind of a legislative session to broader project management.
We know that not every candidate will have experience in all of these areas, and we are willing to coach and train! We’re seeking candidates who are passionate about politics, particularly the public service element of our work. If you are eager to grow and take on new challenges, this is your chance!
