On-Air Fundraising Director position to support its fundraising efforts to attract and engage a large and diverse audience of classical music fans across the state and beyond.  This is an opportunity to work with the country’s most dynamic and successful classical stations, and to develop their growing brand.

USC Radio Group’s mission is to make a positive impact on individuals and communities by championing the power of classical music. Our goal is to nurture a love of classical music for all, and we have an ambitious growth plan, including new on air, online and in-person engagement, to help achieve it.  The On-Air Fundraising Director will be a critical member of the team to raise money to support the growth of the stations.

USC Radio Group is the largest classical music public media service in the U.S.  It includes two major classical stations. KUSC is located in downtown Los Angeles and serves communities throughout Southern California. KDFC is located in downtown San Francisco, serving the Bay area and other communities in Northern California.  The stations are licensed to the University of Southern California, one of the leading research universities in the nation, with a respected commitment to classical music, arts and the community.

Job Overview:

Reporting to the Chief Philanthropic Officer, the On-Air Fundraising Director will coordinate and execute successfully, all on-air campaigns for KUSC/KDFC. From conception and strategic planning through analysis of results.  The position will be responsible for coordinating the work of internal and external contributors to these efforts. S/he will also implement strategic plan to cultivate revenue from individuals in ways that are creative, efficient, scalable, and sustainable.

The On-Air Fundraising Director will be an integral team player to station on-air fundraising success. Experience with planning radio pledge drives strategy including goals, premium choices and studio production resources to maximum membership revenue is critical.  Other important skills for this role are: ability to manage relationships with on-air hosts, production, technical and all other internal contributors; leading the pledge team while providing excellent internal and external customer service; multi-tasking and making sure that premium offers and other details on air are accurate; coordinating the creation of scripting and production of pledge breaks; analyze pledge results, provide reporting as required and offer recommendations for enhancements of pledge strategies. Familiarity with public media, (radio in particular) fundraising is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Will be responsible for creation and execution of all strategy for on-air fundraising including length of drive, premium selection, live and pre-recorded segments, email and social media
  • Work with Marketing director to grow corporate and community partnerships that could result in the creation of incentive offering.
  • Create a fundraising schedule which includes daily fundraising goals, premium selections and host scheduling
  • Write scripts for on-air campaigns and membership spots. Produce message points for talent.
  • Develop and execute an integrated series of radio on-air fundraising campaign spots to highlight all ways to give: for example, matching gifts, vehicle donations, direct marketing, major gifts, direct marketing.
  • Work with promotions staff to ensure that pledge programs are promoted via a calendar of radio spots, web page posts, email and social media.
  • Work closely with Data Administrator to develop experiential premiums, and unique, effective thank you gift offers.
  • Track campaign results on a daily basis and adjust schedule to maximize results.
  • Maintain clear, prompt, daily communication with station staff, including programmers, master control, traffic, promotions, digital, radio – to keep them informed about daily pledge programming schedule.
  • Report out campaign results, analyze year to year campaign data to inform campaign strategy.
  • Researching national benchmarks and implementing Best Practices for On-air Fundraising.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualification/Skills

  • Minimum 4 years relevant experience in TV/Radio production, or related field.
  • Demonstrated pledge production experience with results.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-starter that is also a strong team player who seeks out ways to collaborate.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and other times as required.
  • Must be highly motivated, enthusiastic and possess desire to achieve, with an ability to be a self-starter.

Educational Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Combined work experience/college education as substitute for minimum education
