Description
A trend-setting public radio station and leading source of award winning news is seeking its next President & CEO.
In 2017, Vermont Public Radio celebrates its 40th anniversary as one of the most respected public media institutions in the country. Covering all of Vermont as well as parts of New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Quebec, VPR has one of the highest per capita listening rates of any public radio station in the country. More than one-quarter of Vermont residents tune in to its radio shows every week and its presence draws listeners and readers from across the nation. An essential, trusted, and independent voice for news, information, music, and culture, VPR has made a renewed commitment to take risks that honor everyone’s narratives, connect a diversity of voices, and sustain a culture of stewardship and resilience in Vermont that serves as a model for the nation.
VPR has pursued great change over the last three years, positioning the organization to respond to continued shifts in the creation and dissemination of public media. In 2016, VPR led a comprehensive strategic planning process that engaged stakeholders from every part of the state—listeners, staff, and members of VPR’s Board of Directors. The resulting plan articulates VPR’s vision of public media as audiences, funding, and technologies continue to evolve. VPR’s news team was reorganized in 2017 to begin implementing the plan. And VPR successfully completed a $10 million capital campaign, expanding into a new state-of-the-art home from which it will enact its plan and vision.
VPR is seeking a President & Chief Executive Officer to lead it through this period of tremendous change and opportunity. Reporting to the Board of Directors and working closely with a four-member senior leadership team, the CEO sets the standard for engaging a 60-member staff in executing a strategic vision of public media in the 21st century. The CEO will direct the dynamic and innovative implementation of VPR’s strategic plan, fostering the collaborative development of integrated programmatic and business initiatives that expand listenership and financial support.
