KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio is Seattle’s NPR news station. We are an independent, nonprofit news organization producing award-winning journalism, podcasts, and events in service to the 3.9 million people in our coverage area. As a self-sustaining service of the University of Washington, our mission is to create and serve a more informed public.

We have an outstanding opportunity for a Producer, Daily Podcast (Producer 2 – Podcast) to work on our daily news podcast, Seattle Now.

Under the supervision of the Supervising Producer, you’ll develop, pitch and produce show segments that keep our daily listeners up to speed on essential news in the Puget Sound region. Pre-interview guests, provide host with background research, and write host introductions and interview questions.
Gather sound, conduct interviews in the field as assigned. Oversee studio recording sessions. Mix audio pieces and prepare podcasts for publishing. This is a hybrid position, requiring a minimum of two days per week at KUOW’s facility.

TYPICAL WORK

Work with Supervising Producer and host to develop stories for a daily news podcast;

Pre-interview guests and provide hosts with background research;

Write host introductions and interview questions;

Oversee studio recording sessions;

Mix audio pieces and prepare podcasts for publishing;

Gather sound, conduct interviews in the field as assigned; and

Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements include:

• Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional broadcast journalism experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Requires knowledge of professional broadcast and journalistic standards and practices.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Desired:

• Proficiency with Adobe Audition, NewsBoss or similar newsroom automation system, WordPress or similar web publishing platform
