Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Assists with station imaging and overall sound. Assists with radio productions and special programming for WVAS. Operates and assists with maintenance of all production and digital equipment. Assists with daily operations of WVAS HD2.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Produce, and/or assist with the production of, all station program and promotional content under supervision of Station Manager
- Assist with capture and preparation of nationally syndicated programming delivered to WVAS via satellite and other means for on-air broadcast
- Maintain and update production room schedule of internal and external projects
- Assist with recruitment, organization, training and management of volunteer producers and youth digital media project(s) in conjunction with Station Manager
- Engineer “live” music performances, special events, and remote broadcasts as needed, including setup and operation of soundboard and related equipment, as requested by Station Manager
- Work closely with Station Manager on day-to-day operations of WVAS HD2 channel
- Maintain production room and all production equipment as requested by Station Manager to include inventory of equipment
- Train intern and practicum students as requested by Station Manager
- Performs other related duties as requested by Station Manager
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of radio programming and broadcasting
- Ability to render administrative and technical assistance in the operation of a non-commercial radio station
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a timely manner
- Ability to speak in clear and well-modulated manner and to use correct grammar and pronunciation
- Ability to maintain a work schedule with a high degree of promptness and reliability
- Ability to maintain 24-hour on-call status
- Ability to communicate excellent radio production skills to a wide range of volunteers
- Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions.
- Ability to express ideas effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to motivate and work with a variety of skilled/unskilled, professional, and administrative personnel
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in communications or a relevant technological field, and/or minimum of two (2) years working experience in radio and/or television in a related capacity
- Excellent audio production hardware and software skills including digital editing
- Strong computer skills in office and specialized software
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong knowledge of multiple music genres
- Experience in training and managing volunteers
- Must have a valid driver’s license, and a driving record that meets standards for University insurance coverage
