A program of KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio, RadioActive Youth Media is an award-winning radio journalism program for teens in the Seattle area and beyond. With the support of staff journalists, participants produce content for RadioActive that has won national Murrow, Gracie and PRNDI awards.
RadioActive is seeking a Program Producer (Producer 2) specializing in outreach and community programming to join our small team. The Program Producer will manage educational program development, operations, and delivery. They will build and maintain partnerships and programs to expand KUOW’s reach into the community. Through mobile and on-site programing, they will help introduce youth to storytelling, radio journalism and multimedia production.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare and facilitate workshops and activities that introduce youth to storytelling, journalism and broadcast and multimedia production. Collaborate with RadioActive’s program team on curriculum development and management. (30%)
• Train and supervise temporary staff in order to delivery high quality programs. Ensure that workshops meet Youth Program Quality standards. (15%)
• Manage RadioActive’s outreach strategy in order to expose the program to diverse audiences, prioritizing those whose perspectives are underrepresented in the media. Create and implement partnership agreements. Be an outward face of KUOW and RadioActive in the community. (15%)
• Work with community stakeholders and interface with youth to recruit applicants. Oversee intro workshop admissions processes. (15%)
• Oversee workshop site logistics and equipment management. (10%)
• Work with KUOW staff to develop and maintain program promotional activities – audio, print, online, social media, and through collaborating organizations. (10%)
• Other duties as assigned (5%)
Requirements include:
• Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional broadcast experience (preferably teaching or facilitating programs for teenagers and/or young adults) or equivalent combination of education/experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Desired:
• Background in media production, communications, youth development, journalism desirable.
• At least 3-5 years of experience teaching or facilitating programs for teenagers and/or young adults. Must enjoy working with youth in an environment of discovery.
• Previous experience in radio production with a knowledge of professional broadcast standards and practices.
• Proficiency in Adobe Audition or an equivalent non-linear audio editing program.
• Track record of building community partnerships and relationships.
• Solid organization skills, multi-tasking ability, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work successfully with diverse groups of people, including people of color, LGBTQ people, financially insecure people, immigrants, religious minorities, and others whose perspectives are underrepresented in the media. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team that includes young people in lead roles.
• Previous race and social justice training. A willingness to engage in personal and organizational reflection, critical dialogue and growth around issues of race and other oppressions.
• Ability to learn new technologies fast.
• Passion and gift for storytelling.
• Must be able to work independently in offsite locations. Must be able to work a varied schedule when required, including some evenings and weekends.
• A valid Washington State driver’s license.
