Based in Sonoma County, Northern California Public Media (NorCal) serves the San Francisco region through two public television stations, KRCB and KPJK, and one public radio station, KRCB FM. NorCal offers PBS, NPR, and Independent Public Broadcasting programming as one of the few community-owned and operated media entities serving the region.

NorCal is currently offering an exciting role for a Radio Operations Coordinator to manage KRCB-FM program operations. Reporting to the Radio Manager, this position oversees program flow, continuity, and traffic, and assures that locally produced and nationally distributed content meets KRCB-FM standards and is properly prepared for broadcast and online delivery. This position also helps ready the station’s key systems and processes for periods of automated operations. The Radio Operations Coordinator is instrumental in executing NorCal and the Radio Manager’s vision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate the continuous, multifaceted daily operations of the radio station, ensuring compliance with broadcast standards, NorCal policies, and FCC regulations, plus CPB and NPR guidelines
  • Create daily, detailed program logs and schedule spot placements
  • Create, maintain, and edit daily automation playlists using Automation and Traffic software
  • Manage audio files and schedule placement for weekly program promos
  • Perform quality control functions to assure produced content is ready for daily broadcast
  • Maintain accurate schedules, records, discrepancy reports, and follow-through communications
  • Oversee the flow of nationally distributed content to make sure correct audio is scheduled for air
  • Manage the automation system to make sure scheduled content is aired as expected
  • Ensure broadcast specials, breaking news and other unexpected programming is ready for air, upon the direction of the Radio Manager
  • Monitor NPR Traffic and PRX feeds for updates on program schedules, content feeds/changes, and system updates or notifications
  • Collaborate with the Radio Manager on budgets and strategic planning, and attend departmental and cross-departmental meetings
  • Work with the pledge team to populate a pre-determined pledge programming schedule
  • Assist with audience analysis
  • Operate radio board and all studio equipment as needed
  • Assist the engineering and IT department in troubleshooting technical issues
  • Coordinate scheduling and file transfers with volunteer hosts
  • Confirm all sponsorship spots broadcast on KRCB when contracted
  • Produce monthly affidavits for underwriting clients
  • Additional operations duties as assigned

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Technical knowledge of radio production cycles from idea to broadcast
  • Experience in audio recording and production using Adobe Audition and Pro Tools Advanced audio recording and mixing skills preferred
  • Proficient MS Office software skills
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards
  • Possess organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure, react quickly, and meet deadlines

This on-site role requires the Radio Operations Coordinator to work at our Rohnert Park, California office.
