ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
WUSF Public Media is a comprehensive public media organization that operates an NPR news and jazz radio station [WUSF 89,7] and an all-classical music radio station [WSMR 89.1, 103.9] and provides digital content online, through newsletters, podcasts and social media and serves a weekly audience of greater than 350,000. It is a department of the University of South Florida, with 70 employees and a budget of $12 million and provides internships to students. WUSF Public Media’s main studios are on the USF Tampa campus, with a broadcast and music performance studio on the USFSM campus and an office and news production studio on the USFSP campus.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Program Director, the Radio Programming Assistant assists in day-to-day and administrative activities within the WUSF Public Media Programming Department.
Successful candidate will have demonstrated detail, organizational, communication and collaboration skills; radio and audio production and writing skills are highly important; excellent verbal and listening skills; and an interest in working with a team focused on helping serve and increase the audience for WSMR and WUSF.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Administrative duties for Programming department can be completed on a hybrid remote work schedule. Flexibility to work on-site as needed, especially during live, on-air fundraising campaigns and other live events will be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with daily programming and administrative duties that includes admin support to department directors, provide communications throughout the department regarding on-air promotions, special programs, events, changes, staffing and fundraising. Assist as liaison with remote staff. Provide liaison support across WUSF Public Media departments.
Contribute to digital and on-air promotion and branding by writing and crafting produced radio spots, coordinating logistics for custom spots, updating program grids other communication materials, and assist Digital Services with website assets.
Assist with listener correspondence and inquiries.
Assist with the planning and implementation of on-air fundraisers as needed which may include audio production, pitching, directing, custom audio spots.
Assist with preparing materials for staff and programming meetings, and outside events, which includes slide preparation, handouts, audio and video clips.
Assist with programming department and staff updates: maintaining a log of outside station activities, events, presentations, interviews, live performances, changes, special programming, awards, etc.
Serve as Programming Department operations coordinator during live events, fundraisers, special programming.
Attend stations events as requested, and other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with at least four years of appropriate experience. Additional education may not be substituted for this experience requirement.
PREFERRED:
Bachelor Degree with 4 year experience and familiarity with public radio programming, standards and core values. Experience and knowledge of public broadcasting formats and programming preferable. Strong organizational skills and should be detailed oriented.
